Jill Chambers appointed Assistant Principal at Terrace Ridge School

Wolf Creek Public Schools (WCPS) is excited to announce the appointment of Jill Chambers as the new Assistant Principal of Terrace Ridge School in Lacombe.

Chambers, bringing 14 years of invaluable experience in the education sector, transitions to Terrace Ridge School after her impactful tenure at Iron Ridge Elementary School in Blackfalds.

Spring snow storm expected

It may be the first day of Spring according to the calendar, but snow is in the forecast for several areas across the prairies.

Environment Canada has issued a weather warning for much of Alberta with 10 to 30 cm of snow expected by Friday morning with higher amounts of snow possible over the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains.

Drew Lerner with World Weather Inc says snow is also moving into Saskatchewan today.

Spraying in adverse conditions

Finding the best time to spray to get the most coverage and action can be a challenge for farmers. 

One of the biggest challenges for farmers when spraying is the wind.

Dr Tom Wolf, a research scientist and co-owner of Agrimetrix says we're fighting wind all the time and there's really not much we can do.

He says they went back into their data for spray drift to look at what happens to the droplets when the wind takes them away.

Red Deer County resident wins almost $150 thousand

A Red Deer County resident is now $143,595 dollars richer after checking her Lotto Max ticket from the January 23rd draw.

Nadine Coyne, who bought the ticket in Red Deer, says she couldn't believe it. 

“I scanned the ticket at the store and went numb,” she said while claiming her prize. “I started to feel more excited about it later on. It feels scary and exciting all at once,” she said.

The new winner said she has big plans for her windfall.

Red Deer-Lacombe Rural Crime Watch AGM this Saturday

The Red Deer-Lacombe Rural Community Crime Watch Organization will be holding their Annual General Meeting this Saturday.

The meeting will be held in Haynes at the Haynes Hall (39002 Range Road 243) at 10:00 am.

Trish McAllister, from the Central Alberta Drug Treatment Court Services, will be the special guest speaker.

Lunch will be served after.

Snowfal warning continues for Central Alberta, watch for slippery roads

Although yesterday was the first day of Spring, it was a return to Winter Wednesday morning across Central Alberta. A snowfall warning continues for our area.

According to Environment Canada, 10 to 15 cm of snow is expected by Friday morning for our area. Some parts of Southen Alberta may see up to 30 cm.

There have been multiple reports of vehicles in the ditch. The road conditions get worse the further south you are heading.

Red Deer Council to host public hearing for Land Use Bylaw

Red Deer City Council passed the first reading of the revised Land Use Bylaw during Monday’s regular meeting.  

With the passing of the first reading, the public is invited to provide their input at a public hearing during the April 15 city council meeting.  

After the public hearing, council can consider additional amendments to the proposed bylaw.  

 

Police officer and another victim stabbed during arrest in Red Deer

On March 18, at 4:36 p.m., Red Deer RCMP received a report of a stabbing in the area of 50 Avenue and 52 Street in Red Deer. 

Witnesses reported that the victim was attacked by an unknown suspect who then fled the scene. The victim was taken to hospital with serious life-threatening injuries. 

RCMP immediately deployed all available resources to the area to tend to the victim and locate the suspect.

Wetaskiwin RCMP investigating theft from Canadian Tire

The Wetaskiwin RCMP are investigating a theft over $5,000 from Canadian Tire. 

On March 8, at approximately 10 a.m., three suspects attended the Canadian Tire in Wetaskiwin, where they accessed the locked shelves containing powered hand tools.   

The suspects stole a significant amount of power tools under their clothing, and left in a new model grey Chrysler Pacifica.
