Trump signs order imposing 25 per cent tariffs on steel and aluminum
Donald Trump has signed executive orders to slap 25 per cent tariffs on all steel and aluminum imports into the United States, including Canadian products, starting March 4 — the same deadline given to Canada to convince the U.S. president to halt his plan for across-the-board duties.
"It's a big deal. This is the beginning of making America rich again," Trump said as he signed the executive orders in the Oval Office.

Koe to represent Alberta at Brier after winning 2025 Boston Pizza Cup in Stettler
Kevin Koe of Calgary will represent Alberta at the 2025 Montana Brier after beating Evan Van Amsterdam of Edmonton Sunday afternoon in the finals of Boston Pizza Cup.
The event, which ran Feb. 5 - 9, was hosted by the Erskine Curling Club at the Stettler Recreation Centre.
Red Deer's Jan. unemployment rate tops amongst major Canadian cities
Statistics Canada's latest job numbers show that Red Deer has the highest unemployment rate amongst Canada's major cities.
Red Deer's January unemployment rate was sitting at 9.7 per cent, down from 10 per cent in December.
Meanwhile, unemployment rates in Calgary and Edmonton remained relatively steady.
Edmonton was at 7.2 per cent in January, down 0.3 per cent from December. Calgary dropped to 7.7 per cent in January from 8.1 per cent the month previous.
All three cities came in above the national average of 6.6 per cent.

The Red Deer RCMP were seeking the public’s assistance in locating missing 28-year-old Jasmine Rain.
She was last seen on Feb. 8, in Red Deer.
There was concern for her well-being.
Bundle up; deep freeze expected to stick around
The frigid temperatures that are blanketing much of the province are expected to stick around for the next week or so.
Temperatures will warm up a bit by mid-week before plunging once again heading into the weekend.
Environment and Climate Change Canada Meteorologist Stephen Berg says there is light at the end of the tunnel.
"With the longer-range forecast, conditions get closer and closer to seasonal values by the end of next week," he commented.
The normal daytime high for this time of year is around minus three degrees.

Warming up your vehicle? Red Deer RCMP provide tips to avoid theft
With the bitter cold temperatures returning this week, many drivers are looking to warm up their vehicles before hopping in.
Red Deer RCMP are reminding residents to never leave their keys in their vehicle, unattended.
During Operation Cold Start, which took place Jan. 20 to 24, officers found 12 unlocked vehicles left idling with keys in the ignition. Police also discovered 61 locked vehicles left idling with keys in the ignition.
During the week-long campaign, officers engaged with residents to educate them on best practices to prevent vehicle theft in winter.
Trump’s invasion threats violate international law: Canadian ambassador
The Canadian ambassador to France says threats by United States President Donald Trump to invade another country violate international law.
"I'm just saying that in order to respect international law, you don't threaten your neighbours by invasion," Stéphane Dion said.
Trump has said he wouldn’t rule out using military force to take over Greenland, which is part of Denmark.
Trump said again Sunday that he wants to see Canada become a U.S. state after being asked about Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s recent comments saying that Trump is not joking.
Classes and buses cancelled Monday due to cold weather
Chinook's Edge School Division - Buses are not running Monday in the communities of Penhold, Delburne and Elnora but schools are open and classes are being held.
Due to severe weather conditions, all school bus routes within Clearview Public Schools will be cancelled, Monday, February 10, 2025.
Schools will be open and regular classes will proceed.
