Update: QEII reopened at Airdrie
The southbound lanes of the QEII have reopened near Airdrie.
Airdrie RCMP are still advising that road conditions are extremely poor, as tow-trucks work to clean up the multiple collisions on Highway 2.
RCMP had reported earlier today that the southbound lanes of Highway 2, between Highway 564 and Balzac were closed, and traffic was at a standstill, due to multiple collisions in the area.
The roadways are still being reported as icy and visibility is very poor, with white-out conditions.
Motorists are asked to avoid travel if possible.
Trump to slap Canada with 25 per cent tariffs Tuesday, sources say
U.S. President Donald Trump will hit Canada with 25 per cent tariffs on Tuesday, with a lower 10 per cent duty for energy, government sources said — laying the foundation for a trade war with America's closest neighbours.
The federal government informed provinces Saturday that tariffs are coming, said the provincial sources, who cannot be named in order to share details that governments have not yet made public. It is not yet clear which energy exports would be included in the lower tariff category.
Central Alberta drivers waking up to fog, partly snow-covered highways
A fog advisory remains in effect this morning for areas north of Calgary including Mountain View County near Olds and Didsbury.
Areas of dense fog with near-zero visibility are expected to dissipate later this morning.
Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations.
Fog patches are being reported on the QEII south of Bowden.
Some highways in Central Alberta are snow-covered with blowing snow.
Rebels earn first shutout of the season in win over Pats
Rebels netminder Peyton Shore turned away 21 shots Friday night in Regina to earn his first WHL career shutout as Red Deer blanked the Pats 3-0.
Talon Brigley and Kalan Lind each scored a goal, while Derek Thurston sealed the victory with an empty-netter.
Red Deer will close out their four-game road trip Saturday night in Moose Jaw.
Brigley got the Rebels off to a hot start, scoring on Red Deer's first shot of the game as he tipped home a shot by Doogan Pederson.

Olds High School student prepares to become a welder
Salvador Vermeulen is a Grade 11 student, attending Ecole Olds High School. He is happy to be enrolled in welding class and specifically in Readiness for the Skilled Trades Level 2.
Vermeulen says he loves working with his hands, which is part of why he enjoys welding. Also, his Dad works in the trades, which is a positive influence on him as well. He hopes to take as many opportunities as possible through dual credit, off campus and through Careers, in order to build his skills before high school graduation.

Canadian officials are anxiously waiting to see if U.S. President Donald Trump follows through on his threat to slap Canada with devastating tariffs Saturday.
Trump said Friday he is considering lowering tariffs on Canadian oil to 10 per cent after the White House confirmed he is going forward with 25 per cent levies on imports from Canada and Mexico.
Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly said Friday night in Washington, D.C., that it was still not clear what would happen after Trump's latest comments.

The Bashaw Arena has been nominated for the Kraft Hockeyville contest.
Jackie Northey, Executive Director of the Bashaw Adult Learning Council nominated the arena for the contest, and since then, it has turned into a community effort.
