RCMP investigating hit-and-run, seeking witnesses
The Red Deer RCMP are seeking public assistance in a hit-and-run investigation.
On Jan. 7, at approximately 12:20 p.m., a white 2000 Dodge Ram was observed driving southbound in the northbound lane on Gaetz Avenue, near 34 Street.
The Dodge Ram hit another vehicle and fled the scene without stopping.
Police are actively investigating this incident and are seeking assistance from the public.
Traffic light construction starting Monday in Sylvan Lake
Motorists in Sylvan Lake can expect a traffic disruption at the intersection of 50 Street and 50 Avenue due to traffic light construction.
Construction is scheduled to start Jan. 13 at 9 a.m. and wrap up on Jan. 24 at 5 p.m.
There will be flag persons on site.
Signage and delineators will be removed at the end of each working day.
Rocky council approves 2025 Budget, includes property tax hike
The Town of Rocky Mountain House Council has adopted the 2025 operating and capital budget.
The operating budget was approved in the amount of $28,042,892 and capital budget of $5,827,100 and includes a 2 per cent increase in property taxes.
Two men charged following seizure of stolen vehicles and drugs in Wetaskiwin County on Christmas Eve
On Christmas Eve, Wetaskiwin RCMP received a report that a vehicle with on board GPS tracking was stolen and was at a location in Wetaskiwin County.
Upon arrival, three individuals were arrested.
Following a search, police discovered both the original stolen Jeep as well as a stolen Dodge truck.
RCMP also located an imitation firearm and prepackaged Fentanyl ready for distribution.

Another overtime loss for the Rebels
The Red Deer Rebels lost their seventh straight Tuesday night, this time falling 3-2 in overtime to the visiting Saskatoon Blades to wrap up a four-game home stand. Red Deer was coming off a 4-3 overtime loss Saturday against Regina.
The Rebels are now 2-0-1-0 against the Blades this season.
Red Deer opened the scoring at 15:27 of the first when Samuel Drancak trickled one through the legs of Blades goalie Evan Gardner.
Zach Olsen deflected a shot from Brayden Klimpke midway through the second to tie the game up at a goal apiece.
Canada Post stabilizes operations amid high volumes
As of yesterday, Canada Post has reinstated on-time service guarantees and returned to full-service levels for domestic parcels.
"We thank Canadians for their patience these past few weeks as we’ve worked to safely restore normal operations while managing significant holiday volumes," stated Canada Post in a press release.
While they have stabilized their operations and taken care of the parcels in their network, they continue to work through higher volumes of mail.
Big Brothers Big Sisters seeking Adopt-A-Match donors
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lacombe & District is aiming to attract 12 donors to partake in its 2025 Adopt-A-Match program.
Jen Harty is the organization's Community Engagement Director.
"This is something that is ongoing," she explained. "What it entails is a donor for $50 a month or $600 annually, a donor can directly support a mentoring relationship that transforms a child's life."
Donors will receive personalized updates about their match throughout the year.
Harty says, so far, they have three donors signed up for the Adopt-A-Match program.
Liberal MPs gather for first time since Trudeau announced his resignation plans
Liberal MPs are meeting in Ottawa today for the first time since Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced he will step down.
The national caucus meeting, set to take place both in person and online, was originally set to last six hours to give MPs time to discuss Trudeau's previous refusal to resign.

Some Shaw/Rogers customers in Lacombe were experiencing an interruption to their internet, television and home phone services.
The company says it is working to restore service as quickly as possible.
Affected services included Internet, Business Internet, Phone, Business Phone, Digital TV, VOD, Gateway, Xfinity TV, and WiFi Access Points.
Crews have determined the outage is due to a fibre cut caused by vandalism.
