Donations close Thursday for Ty's Third Annual Giving Back
The Hultink family is collecting toys and monetary donations, for Ty's Third Annual Giving Back, in memory of their son.
The items collected will be donated to the Stollery Children's Hospital Child Life program.
“They support kids through severe sicknesses, provide gifts for the kids and siblings, and fun experiences,” said Tyler’s mother, Deb Hultink.
Chinook’s Edge alumni inspire at CACI event
Three Chinook’s Edge graduates featured prominently in a recent event, showcasing the career readiness opportunities available for middle and high school students in Central Alberta. The Central Alberta Collegiate Institute (CACI) provided an information session at Red Deer Polytechnic on January 24, 2025, for municipal leaders and industry representatives.
Lane closures start this week in Wetaskiwin
Starting this week, Wetaskiwin drivers can expect to encounter lane closures along 40 Ave.
Contractors will be working on a sanitary line rehabilitation project along 40 Ave. between 56 St. and 51A St.
Lane closures will occur in sections as the work progresses.
Closures will be in effect only during daytime working hours, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Equipment will be moved on- and off-site each day to allow for regular driving patterns in the evenings.
The estimated completion date for the project is Friday, Feb. 28.
LPAC gives weekly space for local artists
The Lacombe Performing Arts Centre (LPAC), has a space for local artists to mingle and create.
Every Wednesday morning from 10am to 1pm, you can drop in for free studio time at LPAC.

Mobile mammography service coming to Rocky
Alberta Health Services (AHS) Screen Test program will provide screening mammograms to eligible individuals in Rocky Mountain House.
A mobile mammography trailer will be at the Rocky Mountain House Health Centre (5016 52 Ave) from Jan. 31 to Feb. 9.
Screening mammograms are the best way to find breast cancer early when treatment may work better.
Blackfalds bike park undergoing name change
Blackfalds' Vesta Energy Bike Skills Park will be renamed the Parallax Energy Bike Skills Park following the acquisition of Vesta Energy by Parallax Energy Operating Inc.
The acquisition was announced in early December.
Parallax says that only the name will be changing, noting that the relationship between the Town of Blackfalds and Parallax will continue as the company is committed to continuing its efforts to stay involved in the Blackfalds community.

Traffic disruptions on 40 Ave begin today in Red Deer
The City of Red Deer is advising motorists of traffic disruptions on 40 Avenue, while crews install streetlights.
There will be reduced speeds and intermittent road detours on 40 Avenue, south of 19 Street to south of the Waste Management Facility until Feb. 19.
Red Deer school and playground zone speed limits now in effect starting at 7 a.m.
The start time for playground and school zone speed limits in Red Deer will shift from 8 a.m. to 7 a.m. starting immediately. The speed limit in school and playground zones is 30 km/h.
City Council passed second and third readings of an updated Traffic Bylaw and subsequent amendments to the General Penalty Bylaw Monday night.
Feeder Associations of Alberta meeting in Red Deer
The 45 Feeder Associations of Alberta will be meeting in Red Deer Jan. 30 - Feb. 1st to talk business and do future planning.
“By being partners in livestock financing, our associations have helped grow Alberta’s livestock business by making credit more accessible and flexible,” says FAA Executive Director Craig Guthrie.
