Bulldogs acquire goalie from Grizzlies

The Blackfalds Bulldogs have acquired 2006-born goaltender Dylan Adams from the Victoria Grizzlies in exchange for Future Considerations.

Adams is a Kelowna, British Columbia product who played in one game with Battlefords North Stars this season where he posted a 2.12 goals against average and a 0.941 save percentage.

Adams had previously played for the Okanagan Rockets U18 AAA team in the BCEHL last season where he had a 4-5-0 record in 9 games played with a 3.67 goals against average.

ASIRT clears Red Deer RCMP officer from 2021 shooting

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has concluded an investigation into a non-fatal officer-involved shooting during a residential break and enter.  

On Sept. 21, 2021, the Red Deer RCMP received a call from an older adult stating that his stepson had broken into his home, which he was prohibited from attending due to a court-imposed condition.

Lacombe County and the Town of Delburne are two of the seven municipalities set to join a growing movement in Alberta by applying for an initiative allowing golf carts on select municipal roads.

Alberta’s government is working with municipalities to pilot the limited use of golf carts on select roads to enhance mobility and provide recreational options for residents. This initiative reflects the unique transportation needs of communities across the province.

Federal government announces massive drop in immigration targets as Liberals make major pivot

The federal government is slashing immigration targets to levels that will flatten population growth as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau admits the government did not get the balance right after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The government had targeted bringing in 500,000 new permanent residents in both 2025 and 2026.

Next year's target will instead be 395,000 new permanent residents, and that will fall to 380,000 in 2026 and 365,000 in 2027.

Pan Continental Curling Championships expected to have big impact on local economy

With the Pan Continental Curling Championships kicking off this weekend at the Gary Moe Auto Group Sportsplex, the Lacombe & District Chamber of Commerce is anticipating a big boon to the local economy.

"It's going to have a huge effect on the community of Lacombe and its surrounding areas," said executive director Wendy Buyar. "Not just for during the event but for time afterwards as well. People are going to be coming to stay in Lacombe, they'll be eating in Lacombe, they'll be shopping in Lacombe. That's going to have some real effects on the businesses in Lacombe."

Trudeau says he will remain prime minister despite caucus revolt

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he has no intention of stepping down as the leader of the Liberal party by next week. 

A letter signed by two dozen Liberal MPs asking Trudeau to step down was presented to the prime minister Wednesday at a tense caucus meeting in Ottawa.

The letter asked for him to let the caucus know by Oct. 28 what he decides to do.

Trudeau told MPs he would reflect on what was said, but when asked today if he would stay on as prime minister after that date he answered a definitive "yes." 

Wetaskiwin murder suspect breaks curfew, on the run after assaulting police officer

The Wetaskiwin RCMP are seeking public assistance in locating 31-year old Wetaskiwin resident, Talsa Ashlee Cardinal.

On March 29, Cardinal was released on a release order for First Degree Murder out of Edmonton Police Service.

She was released with a 24-hour curfew.

On Oct. 19, Cardinal was observed breaching her release order.

Wetaskiwin RCMP attempted to arrest Cardinal for failure to comply with her release order, but she assaulted the police officer, resisted arrest, and fled.

Red Deer to “Go Blue” in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month 

October is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and the Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre (CACAC) has partnered with Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) to raise awareness around the issue.  

To spread awareness, the advocacy centre is encouraging Central Albertans to find ways to “Go Blue,” today (Oct. 24).    

The simplest way is to wear blue, take a picture, and post it using #GoBlueAB.
