Record organ and tissue donation in Saskatchewan

Organ donors are very present among the Saskatchewan population. Back at the start of the month, the Government released some numbers relating to record high numbers of organ and tissue donation.

They used the fiscal period of April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023 to note 30 deceased donors, the biggest single-year number ever seen in the province. 46 adult kidney transplants were also recorded, not a record, but still good enough for the second highest ever to be performed in the province. 276 patients donated ocular tissue.

Watch out for algae blooms when the temperature rises

Rising temperatures could cause caution in the water at the lake this weekend.

This time of year is when patches of harmful blue-green algae appear in our province's lakes and reservoirs. People should stay away from these blooms at all costs, and that goes for owners and livestock producers as well who are advised to keep their animals away from suspected blooms.

SaskEnergy: Free furnace tune-ups back for another year

Summertime in Saskatchewan is greatly benefitted by air conditioning, but not as vital to survival compared to our furnaces in the winter.

Significant seizures of drugs and cash near Maidstone

Separate busts involving large quantities of drugs, and in one instance cash near Maidstone over the month of May are making headlines.

The Saskatchewan RCMP's Roving Traffic Unit is reporting "significant seizures of drugs and proceeds of crime" after partnering with the Saskatchewan Highway Patrol of the Provincial Protective Services (PPS) Branch. They managed to take illicit drugs, a restricted firearm, and a large quantity of cash in relation to Saskatchewan crimes.

eHealth Saskatchewan issues reminder with card sticker renewal upcoming

A recent reminder from eHealth Saskatchewan is sharing that residents should ensure personal information is currently ahead of the upcoming fall health card renewal.

People should check to ensure their address and family information is up to date now before they receive the new health card stickers this fall. Information that Health Registries need to know includes your name, and family unit changes due to marriage, divorce, addition, or removal of dependents.

Leader musician takes on Kansas City for Folk Alliance International

Southwest musician headed to Kansas City to connect with folk music leaders.

Leader's Berk Jodoin made the trip to Kansas City, a place known for their jazz, with his daughter Milly. The two were introduced to a brand-new world of music with artists from all over the world gathering in one place.

"I watched a band from Sweden--they were a string band and were playing instruments I had never seen before," Jodin said. "It sounded fantastic, but I had to ask them what their instruments were called."
