The Town of Diamond Valley received notice on July 16th from the Westend Regional Sewage Services Commission for an effluent diffuser in the Sheep River.

The Westend Lagoon is just north and downstream from the town, and they would like to install the effluent diffuser just northwest of the lagoon.

Effluent diffusers mitigate sewage going into the river.

According to the Canadian Navigable Waters Act, you must serve notice to the public and allow 30 days for the public to add their comments.

All comments must be received by August 16, 2025.

If you're an angler in Alberta, one of the bucket-list fish species to catch is the lake sturgeon.

The always elusive and somewhat mythical fish has been around for millions of years.

Lake sturgeon have essentially remained unchanged for over 150 million years.

They can be found in Alberta rivers, namely the North and South Saskatchewan.

The name is a bit misleading in Alberta, as they are only found in rivers here.

Lake Sturgeon can also be found in the Old Man and Red Deer Rivers. 

The Hamlet of Granum is no longer under a boil water advisory.  

The advisory was issued following a power outage on July 13 and was lifted Wednesday afternoon.  

In compliance with Alberta Environment and Protected Areas regulations, two sets of water samples were required on consecutive days before the advisory could be lifted.

Vulcan and surrounding area residents were invited to brave the local swimming pool waters for an upcoming screening of the iconic thriller, Jaws 3.  

With the summer heating up the Foothills, many people like to cool off in the Highwood River and surrounding waterbodies.

From using inner tubes from tractors to inflatable rafts to canoes, kayaks, and everything in between, there are many ways to enjoy floating down the Highwood.

The High River RCMP are stressing the need for water safety, no matter what means you use to enjoy the river or any other lakes or streams.

They've shared six key tips for having a fun, safe time on the rivers and lakes.

A spokesperson for Manitoba Agriculture says it remains to be seen what sort of damage was felt on fields from last week's hail.

Hail was reported in numerous locations across the province, and Oilseed Specialist Sonia Wilson says producers will typically leave those crops for five to seven days, just to see how they rebound, before assessing them for hail damage. 

A man charged with hijacking a light plane at Victoria International Airport and flying it to Vancouver had an "ideological motive to disrupt airspace" and seized control of the aircraft after threatening a flight instructor, RCMP said Wednesday.

A spokeswoman for the Public Prosecution Service of Canada said a charge of hijacking had been filed in Richmond, B.C., constituting a "terrorist activity" and a "terrorist offence" under two sections of the Criminal Code.

RCMP said Shaheer Cassim, 39, is set to appear in court next Tuesday.

Unionized Canada Post workers will get a chance to vote directly on the employer's offers for a new collective agreement starting on Monday.

The Canada Industrial Relations Board will run the vote between July 21 and Aug. 1.

A simple majority vote will decide whether the proposal is accepted or rejected.

Canada Post is at an impasse with the union representing roughly 55,000 postal service workers after 19 months of talks.

A photo radar scam has been making the rounds in Southern Alberta.

On July 11, both the Lethbridge Police Service and the Medicine Hat Police Service took to Facebook to warn the public about a phishing scam.

Then, on Wednesday, July 16, the Taber Police took to Facebook to let the public know they are now also receiving reports of this same scam.

As part of this scam, people are receiving a text message from "Alberta Drive Safe" or "Safe Roads Alberta" or "City of Lethbridge", claiming the recipient of the message has an unpaid photo radar ticket.

The Town of Nanton has downgraded their water restriction level, due to the recent rainy weather.

They had moved to a Level 2 Water Restriction in early May, which had limited outdoor water usage to twice per week, which included watering lawns, flowerbeds, gardens, washing vehicles, and using a sprinkler.

On July 15, the Town took to social media to let the public know that the rainy weather the area has been experiencing recently has allowed the Town to downgrade the water restriction to Level 1 Water Conservation.
