Local gas prices drop. Why?

Prices at the pumps in the Foothills over the last few weeks have noticeably dropped.

The current price in High River is at $1.34.9 a litre while it's just a bit more in Okotoks at $1.419, excluding Costco.

High River has the lowest prices around compared to Nanton, Claresholm, Vulcan and Diamond Valley.

Former Oiler Christian Green impressing in Manitoba

Former Okotoks Oiler netminder Christian Green has been an absolute brick wall since moving to the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL).

Green, the Boothwyn, Pennsylvanian product who played the 2023-2024 AJHL/BCHL season with the Oilers has posted terrific numbers since joining the Steinbach Pistons this season.

The 20-year-old goaltender leads the MJHL with a 0.942 save percentage and a 1.51 goals-against average in eight games played so far. He has also posted two shutouts and holds a record of 7-1-0.

Former Okotoks Dawg makes a surprise appearance at Seaman Stadium

Seaman Stadium had a special guest appear today with former Okotoks Dawg and current member of the Tampa Bay Rays in the MLB, Tristan Peters coming out for some off-season training. 

Peters played a single game in 2018 in the WMBL (which is now known as the WCBL) season getting two plate appearances while producing a hit and a walk.

In the 2019 season when the new league name of WCBL was introduced, Peters played phenomenally with 52 runs, 90 hits, 18 doubles, three triples, 12 home runs, 44 RBIs, and 20 walks.

The Dewdney Players' new play will show the chaotic nature of putting on a play

The Dewdney Players from Okotoks is performing a play that will show how difficult it can be to put on a play.

Katie Fournell is the director of their newest play, Noises Off, and says it's quite entertaining.

"I'm the director of Noises Off, which is one of the funniest shows I've ever gotten the chance to see and have wanted to get my hands on it as the director ever since, because it's insane." Fournell explains. "It's basically a farce making fun of a farce."

The play is about a theatre company trying to put on a play and how chaotic it can become.

Wintertime reminders to help keep Diamond Valley safe

With snowflakes threatening to fall soon, there are ways to help keep streets clear.

The Town of Diamond Valley has recently taken to Facebook to provide tips residents could follow to help crews clear streets in town, while staying safe.

As part of the winter preparations, the Town is asking people to remove any wood and metal driveway curb ramps, basketball hoops, skateboard and bike ramps, and any other similar item.

In fact, those items must be removed from the street from November 1 to April 30 under their Traffic Bylaw.

Foreign affairs minister seeks support for plan to return deported Ukrainian children

Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly says she hopes countries from around the world will support a plan to bring back Ukrainian children who have been deported to Russia since the war in Ukraine began nearly three years ago. 

Joly urged more than 70 delegations attending a ministerial conference in Montreal on Wednesday to make a “strong pledge” to ensure children and other Ukrainian civilians and prisoners of war are returned home.

They are currently in the engagement portion of their nature strategy, which will allow those who live in Alberta a chance to provide a say on the way nature in Alberta is protected for years to come.

Albertan's wellbeing is dependent on how healthy the landscape is and the goods and services that nature provides the province.

'Not going to play their games': Singh won't help Tories, Bloc topple the Liberals

New Democrats will not cave to demands from the Bloc Québécois and Conservative leaders to help them bring down the Liberal government, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh said Wednesday. 

His party is now all that stands between Justin Trudeau's Liberals and an early election, with the other two opposition parties pledging to try to topple the minority government at the next opportunity. 

On Tuesday, Bloc Québécois Leader Yves-François Blanchet said he will make good on his threat to work with the other opposition parties to bring the Liberals down with a non-confidence vote.
