Okotoks Dawgs game postponed due to rainy forecast
The Okotoks Dawgs have announced that Friday's (June 20) game against the Brooks Bombers has been postponed.
The change was attributed to the weekend forecast, with a rainfall warning currently in effect in Foothills County.
Black bear spotted in Priddis area
A Black bear was seen in the Priddis area of Foothills County on Thursday (June 19) afternoon around 256 St W and 210 Avenue.
Foothills County is urging residents to use caution and to not approach or interfere with bears as they are searching for food at this time of year.
Residents are reminded to ensure food and garbage is not out in the open, leave an escape route open for bears, and keep an eye on children and pets.
Searchers recover second body after rockfall near Banff National Park hiking trail
Search teams located a second body Friday following a massive rockfall off a hiking trail in Banff National Park.
“RCMP are notifying their next of kin and no further information is available at this time,” read a statement issued by Mounties and Parks Canada.
A 70-year-old woman from Calgary was first found dead at the site of Thursday's rock slide at Bow Glacier Falls, north of Lake Louise.
Three others were taken to hospital and were reported in stable condition.
Heartland returns to High River this week
The Town of High River will be a film set a couple days this week.
Crews will be in town on Monday and Tuesday this week filming scenes for an episode of Heartland.
They will be setting up in various areas around High River, including at 3 Avenue SW and 9 Street SW.
Because of the film crews, there will be a parking restriction on 3 Ave SW, and some loud noises are expected while they are filming.
Okotoks' Farmers' Market is a go for this afternoon
The Okotoks Farmers' Market will open for the season this afternoon.
The weather forecast is predicting a lot of rain this weekend, which has led to other events being cancelled or postponed, like the Guy Weadick Rodeo in High River.
If the rain manages to hold off, the Farmers' Market will open at 3:30 and run until 6:30 p.m. at its relatively new location.
Last year, Inclusion Foothills moved the market to the Viking's Rental Centre's parking lot.
We are expecting between 10 and 15 mm of rain today, with another 20 to 30 mm of rain expected tonight.
High River's Chantel Bruins is Mrs. Calgary 2025
High River's Chantel Bruins, formerly Chantel Wiebe, is this year's Mrs. Calgary.
"Oh my gosh, it was magical. I feel like everything went as perfectly as it could have. The jewellry drive went incredibly well. I surpassed my goal. They didn't even have a scale big enough to weigh it all."
Bruins raised about 60 pounds of jewelry for the Gems for Gems program that the pageant fully supports. Last year she raised 30 pounds for the charity.
Officials say one dead, three hurt in rockfall at Banff National Park hiking trail
Police and parks officials say one person was killed and three were injured in a rockfall at a remote hiking trail in Banff National Park.
They say the search continues to confirm no other hikers are missing following the early afternoon tragedy at Bow Glacier Falls, north of Lake Louise.
One person had been found dead and the extent of the injuries to the other three is unknown.
Two of the three injured were taken to a Calgary hospital by STARS air ambulance and the third went to hospital by ground ambulance.
Multiple RCMP units charge Siksika resident for string of vehicle thefts
On May 21, the Southern Alberta RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (SAD CRU) launched an investigation into a series of vehicle thefts.
A suspect was identified, and SAD CRU with assistance from the High River, Vulcan, Airdrie, Strathmore, and Gleichen RCMP units, deployed a bait truck with GPS tracking in the rural east area of Calgary.

Police, rescuers respond as rock slide hits hikers in Banff; injuries undetermined
Rescue crews, police and paramedics scrambled to a remote region of Banff National Park late Thursday amid reports that a group of hikers were hit by a rock slide, causing possible injuries and deaths.
“The initial report indicated there were multiple hikers and there may be serious injuries and/or fatalities,” RCMP Cpl. Gina Slaney said in a news release.
Parks Canada, in a statement said, it is responding to a report of "a serious rockfall incident with involvement near Bow Glacier Falls in Banff National Park."
