Four Airdrie-linked players taken in 2025 WHL hockey draft
Four hockey players with ties to Airdrie were selected in the 2025 Western Hockey League (WHL) Prospects Draft.
Goaltender Karter Gibson was selected 65th overall in the third round by the Tri-City Americans. He played for Northern Alberta Xtreme U15 Prep and is listed as being from Airdrie.
Centre Owen Grassick was picked 80th overall in the fourth round by the Moose Jaw Warriors. He played with the Airdrie U15 AAA Xtreme and is listed as being from Cochrane.

Alberta is committing $25 million through Budget 2025 to expand and modernize the W.J. Elliott trades building at Olds College - part of a $63-million investment spread over three years, first announced in 2024.

Weather warning issued for Airdrie — here's what to expect
Environment Canada issued a rainfall warning Sunday afternoon for parts of Rocky View County near Airdrie and Crossfield, with up to 80 millimetres of precipitation expected by Tuesday morning.
Rain is forecast to begin Sunday night and intensify through the day on Monday before tapering off early Tuesday. The warning states that rainfall totals between 50 and 80 mm are possible. Wet snow may mix in Monday morning and evening as snow levels fall below 2,000 metres.

Update: Bush fire promts 911 call in Airdrie
Emergency crews responded to a bush fire that was reported to be located at Chinook Winds Park on Saturday afternoon.
RCMP confirmed a 911 call was made at 2:02 p.m.
RCMP say they were on scene assisting the Airdrie Fire Department as firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze.
No injuries have been reported. Authorities say more information will be released as it becomes available.
