RVS schools unite for annual cleanup
Multiple Airdrie schools participated in Rocky View School's fourth annual Helping Hands Cleanup last week.
Every April since 2021, Rocky View Schools (RVS) has hosted the annual Helping Hands Cleanup as an observation of Earth Day (April 22).
This year, a record-breaking 39 RVS schools are heading outdoors to help keep their school grounds looking beautiful. The Airdrie schools include:
Rising star Hayley Isabel shines on TV
Upcoming Airdrie Country Star Hayley Isabel was recently featured on the Family Channel.
According to her, the channel approached her asking if they could do a small segment about her in their "We Are Family" show.
"They reached out to me, which was super cool. I've never done anything like that before, but it was lots of fun."
She explained the camera crew spent a day following her around to see what she does in a day, while interviewing her for a three-minute segment.

STARS founder Dr. Greg Powell passes away
On May 1, STARS (Shock Trauma Air Rescue Service) announced the passing of founder and former CEO, Dr. Greg Powell.
Powell passed away on April 30, 2025 at Foothills Hospice in Okotoks surrounded by family
"While his life is celebrated, rich with experiences, talent and ingenuity, Dr. Powell’s passing leaves a hole in the heart of STARS and for the people who loved him," stated STARS.
According to a press release, his inspiration for STARS was sparked by his experience in Saigon during the Vietnam War.
Wildland grass fire in Rocky View extinguished
Saturday saw fire crews from both local and regional city, town, and county departments, as well as wildland firefighters battling both grassfires and wildfires amid dry and warm conditions.

Update: Wildland grass fire in Rocky View County draws multi-agency response
Just after 10:30 p.m., Rocky View County officials stated that a wildland grass fire east of Lochend Road, near Woodland Road, had been fully extinguished.
"There is no further risk to the public at this time," officials stated.
Officials noted that all fire crews have been demobilized except for one bush buggy, which will remain on site overnight to monitor for hot spots.
Update: Mountain View County currently monitoring wildfire west of Sundre
On Saturday evening, Mountain View County officials noted that Alberta Forestry had updated the wildfire’s status to Being Held. The fire (RWF030) was burning in the Forest Protection Area (FPA) west of Sundre.
"This classification indicates that, given current weather conditions and available resources, the wildfire is not expected to grow beyond its existing boundaries," officials stated.
They added that while the fire remains active, containment efforts have been effective, and the situation is stable.
Carney says he won't make a pact with NDP, confirms King Charles to launch Parliament
King Charles will visit Ottawa to deliver the speech from the throne at the end of this month in a show of support for Canadian sovereignty, Prime Minister Mark Carney said Friday.

Three quarters of Canadians say misinformation affected the federal election: poll
More than three quarters of Canadians believe misinformation had an impact on the outcome of the federal election, a new poll suggests.
The Leger poll, which sampled more than 1,500 Canadian adults from April 29 to May 1, suggests that 19 per cent of people think false information or misinformation had a major impact on the election.
Almost a third (32 per cent) said it had a moderate impact, while 26 per cent said it had a minor impact on the election's outcome.
Only nine per cent of Canadians said misinformation had no impact on the election at all.
AHS issues another potential measles exposure alert for Calgary area
Alberta Health Services has issued another public alert for potential measles exposures in the Calgary area, including at an Alberta Precision Laboratories’ location in Calgary's Northeast.
"These cases have also been in a public setting while infectious," AHS stated on Friday evening.
Individuals who were in the following locations during the specified dates and times may have been exposed to measles:
