Alberta Premier to outline ‘path forward with federal government’ in address

Premier Danielle Smith will deliver a live address to Albertans on Monday following her first official call with Prime Minister Mark Carney and a special meeting of the United Conservative Party caucus.

The address is scheduled for 3 p.m. today and will be livestream-only, according to a May 3 Government of Alberta advisory.

Airdrie RCMP seize over half a kilo of suspected cocaine; Bonnyville woman charged

A 33-year-old woman from Bonnyville is facing multiple charges after Airdrie RCMP seized a large quantity of suspected drugs during a traffic stop on Highway 2 early Saturday morning.

"On May 3, 2025, at approximately 3 a.m., an Airdrie RCMP officer conducted a traffic stop on a motorist on Highway 2," RCMP said in a news release. "During the stop, the officer made observations that the lone female driver may be in possession of a controlled substance."

A man is facing 36 charges after Cochrane RCMP responded to multiple reports of a driver allegedly pointing a long gun at another motorist while behind the wheel of a stolen truck on Stoney Nakoda First Nation.

The incident occurred on the night of April 30, 2025. According to a news release issued the next day, RCMP said officers received "multiple reports of a male pointing a long gun at another male while driving a stolen truck."

Update: Emergency alert test to sound across Alberta this week

A provincewide emergency alert test scheduled for 1:55 p.m. Wednesday has been cancelled due to active wildfires in parts of Alberta.

Alert Ready, the national public alerting agency, announced the cancellation just after 8 a.m. Wednesday morning in a post on X. The agency said the test was called off by the Government of Alberta “due to ongoing wildfires in some parts of the province.”

Alberta NDP votes to allow opting out of federal party membership

Alberta’s New Democratic Party has voted overwhelmingly to cut traditional membership ties with its federal counterpart.

Delegates in Edmonton voted Saturday to allow provincial members to opt out of joining the federal NDP, a move Leader Naheed Nenshi campaigned on last year.

In adopting the measure, the party is shedding what many considered a political albatross.

Nenshi told reporters the party's longtime practice of automatically signing up members to the federal party was a sticking point that scared some potential voters and members away.

RVS schools unite for annual cleanup

Every April since 2021, Rocky View Schools (RVS) has hosted the annual Helping Hands Cleanup as an observation of Earth Day (April 22).

Rising star Hayley Isabel shines on TV

Upcoming Airdrie Country Star Hayley Isabel was recently featured on the Family Channel.

According to her, the channel approached her asking if they could do a small segment about her in their "We Are Family" show.

"They reached out to me, which was super cool.  I've never done anything like that before, but it was lots of fun."

She explained the camera crew spent a day following her around to see what she does in a day, while interviewing her for a three-minute segment.
