Uncovered: Catalyst Quartet record music of African-American composer Florence Price

On February the 4th 2022, the Grammy Award Winning Catalyst String Quartet released the second volume of their “Uncovered” series of recordings.

The “Uncovered” series as recorded by the Catalyst Quartet aims to showcase chamber music of Black composers, who sadly have not had the exposure and recognition that they so rightly deserve. Largely because of the color of their skin, and the biases taught at many Music schools even to this day.

Winnipeg's Casati Trio interprets music from the '50s and '60s at the RADY JCC

Tomorrow afternoon, Thursday, February 24 at 2:00 p.m. the Rady JCC’s Music 'N' Maven’s Concert Series will be presenting Winnipeg’s Casati Trio. Casati consists of singer and ukulele player Grace Hrabi, Guitarist Jesse Popeski, and Bass player Quinten Bart. The trio blends elements of, jazz, country, pop and acoustic folk with their stellar three-part vocal harmonies to create a sound that is truly unique.

On the third Monday of February, the province honours and celebrates the legacy of Louis Riel — founder of Manitoba. 

As the Métis leader of the Red River Resistance, Riel was a driving force behind Manitoba becoming Canada’s fifth province in the spring of 1870. 

First celebrated in 2008, Louis Riel Day gives Manitobans the opportunity to spend time together as well as acknowledge and learn about Métis culture and traditions. 

Reaching the Summit: The Clarinet Summit Duo performs as part of the Music 'N' Mavens concert series

This Tuesday, February 22nd at 2:00pm, the Rady JCC’s Music and Mavens Concert and Lecture Series will be offering their first concert of the series. This first concert will present two of Winnipeg’s finest Clarinetists. The Duo “Clarinet Summit” consists of outstanding Orchestral Player, teacher and repairman Naoum Gomom and Myron Schultz who is known for his amazing work with the Winnipeg Klezmer Band Finjan, as well as the group Black Sea Station.

Kids Helping Kids-Manitoba Registered Music Teachers Association Musicthon 2022

The Manitoba Registered Music Teachers Association (MRMTA) has been providing quality music education to music students throughout the Province since 1919, and for the past 33 years the MRMTA has been hosting the Kids Helping Kids Musicthon. This is an event that supports quality music programs for children who might not otherwise have access to quality music education.

Today marks the anniversary of one of the world's most notable and celebrated composers, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Mozart was just 35 years old when he passed away on December 5, 1791. He was at his home in Vienna, Austria, at the time of his death and there is much contention surrounding the details of his death.
