Double B Agricultural Festival begins the high school rodeo season
The summer season has been full of rodeos and festivals this year, and the season isn’t over yet. As the weather starts warming up after a cool week, the Double B Agricultural Festival spurs into action.
Friday’s activities started with a Ferrier demonstration and Grey Cup Trailer starting at 2 p.m. Midway opened Friday evening at 5 p.m.
The Manitoba Highschool Rodeo was cancelled for the evening due to wet grounds; however, the plan is to continue forward with this portion of the event Saturday.
Cadets prepares youth for their ideal future
The 3234 Manitoba Horse Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps (St. Pierre Cadets) is back in full swing with their regular programming. This is a cadet program for youth ages 12 to 18, which focuses on building good citizenship, leadership, active lifestyles, and team building. Captain Kim Murphy says she and the staff are very excited for another year, and gives an overview of the activities which are part of the program:
New Junior Vox Choir starting in Portage la Prairie
A new musical initiative is bringing the joy of singing to local youth. The Junior Vox Choir is launching this fall, offering children in grades 5 to 8 the opportunity to explore their vocal talents in a supportive, fun environment. The program, spearheaded by Janine Waines, Artistic Director of Prairie Vox (the adult choir) aims to fill a gap in the community's music education offerings.

Corn Cob Junction Set to Open at Estevan Bible Camp
The Estevan Bible Camp is getting ready to welcome families back to Corn Cob Junction, its annual corn maze and fall attraction. Director of Operations Shawn Bissonnette said the season kicks off Saturday, September 13, and will run weekends through to October 24.
“It’s not just a maze,” said Bissonnette. “We’ve got a climbing wall, a hayride, a scavenger hunt through the maze, delicious food, and a bunch of mini games to keep you entertained while you’re out there with the family.”

With fall beginning, Estevan's Chamber of Commerce is looking at a new season and seeing what that'll bring for the area. Executive Director Merissa Scarlett points to their latest coffee talk, hosting Gordon Moore with the Southeast Techhub, as one of their recent events.
Chili cook-off canceled, but Bienfait Legion’s piano show is coming up
The Bienfait Legion is keeping the community entertained this September, despite having to cancel one of their popular events.
Denise Taylor, the Legion’s bookkeeper, joined us in the studio to give an update. “The chili cook-off has been called off this year due to lack of interest,” Taylor said. “Hopefully we can bring it back next year.”

We've wrapped up our first week of deliveries for this years Meal in the Field!
Thursday's delivery took us near Brock where Chris Bodnarchuk nominated his crew for a warm meal. Despite 30-50km winds, the team still enjoyed a nice hot meal of Panago Pizza, plus salads and cookies.
That's week one done, we still have three weeks of deliveries left!
