City advises motor vehicle operators to stay off walking trails

As part of the extensive walking trail system created by the City of Humboldt, an extension of the trail crosses 1st Street on Humboldt’s east side. That extension connects the trail from the campground to Andreason Rd near the Peavey Mart.  

Of late, residents and walkers have become aware of motorized vehicles such as ATVs and dirt bikes riding on the trail.  

Road restrictions on Highway 5 in Humboldt on June 19

The City of Humboldt announced on Wednesday, June 19th, traffic restrictions will be in place on Highway 5 between 7th Street & 9th Street for pothole patching.

There will be a lane closure in place during the work. The intersection of Highways 5 & 20 will also be placed in a 4-way flash.

These restrictions will be in place from 9 am to approximately 11 am.

FCC Accelerated Breeding Program will benefit prairie producers

Farm Credit Canada announced a $5 million investment into the Global Institute for Food Security (GIFS).

FCC President and Chief Executive Officer Justine Henricks announced the funding yesterday during Canada's Farm Show.

She says the partnership is about collaboration and investing in impactful innovation.

Annagail Ell's figure skating season recognized with a provincial award

It was a successful season on and off the ice for a local figure skater.  

Annagail Ell capped off a triumph campaign recently when she won the Provincial StarSkate Award.   

Most of Ell’s awards have been a result of accomplishments on the ice, but the Provincial Star Athlete Award is based both on the ice achievements of the skater and required three letters of recommendation.  

Soy Canada is celebrating it's 10 year anniversary

Over the last few years, we've seen a growing interest in Soybeans in the Prairies.

Soy Canada Executive Director Brian Innes says it's an industry that has been growing over time.

"A number of years ago it was centered in southern Ontario; now it's grown to be right across the country from the Atlantic Ocean to the Rocky Mountains. There's been a lot of significant growth in the prairies over the last 10 years. And it's fitting that this week, we're holding our 10th anniversary in Manitoba."

Canada's Farm Show links agriculture technology to the farm

Today marks the start of Canada's Farm Show.

Farm Show Manager Jeanine Nazarchuk says the show has been around for 46 years and is probably one of the most well known farm shows in Canada and really across North America. 

The three day event, June 18–20, at REAL District in Regina showcases the latest in farm equipment and technology, with 250 exhibitors on the grounds.

She notes that they pride themselves on bringing in really cutting edge exhibitors and knowledgeable speakers who really feature new innovations and product launches.

The East Central AAA 18U Red Sox launch hitting frenzy against Diamondbacks

The East Central AAA 18U Red Sox took a firm hand at the plate coming up with a commanding 12-0 win against the Saskatoon Diamondbacks in last night's SPBL action.  

Cade Britz led the way for the Red Sox going 3 for 3 at the plate with a double and a pair of singles. Pryor Dyck matched Britz’s three-hit night.  

Free tours of Original Humboldt on June 20

During Native Prairie Appreciation Week, the Humboldt and District Museum will be offering free, drop-in guided tours of Original Humboldt. The event also serves as a complement to National Indigenous Peoples Day on Friday, June 21, the nationally recognized day meant to encourage us all to learn more about the rich Indigenous history of this land. 

Registration open for new Prairie Roots Early Learning Centre

Plans continue for the opening of Humboldt’s new daycare centre, the Prairie Roots Early Learning Centre on Water Ridge Crescent in Humboldt. Registration for early learning spots is open as of June 17, says Director Caitlin Senko. While the centre will not open for a couple of months, parents can register for slots on a waitlist as the centre intakes new clients.
