U15A East Central Wolverines set for provincials in Prince Albert

The U15A East Central Wolverines are competing in Softball Saskatchewan U15A Provincials in Prince Albert this weekend.

On Friday they play against the Saskatoon Lasers at 10:30 am.

On Saturday, they face the Regina Royals Elite at 9:30am and the Moose Jaw Ice at 5:30pm.

The top 3 teams at Provincials advance to the Canadian Championships in Quebec in the middle of August.

The 4th and 5th place teams advance to Westerns in Battleford at the beginning of August.

There are 17 teams competing for the top spots this year at U15A Provincials.

Warmer weather, less precipitation advances crop development

The seemingly endless rainfall the province was getting took some time off last week, and paired with increased heat, this has accelerated crop advancement and allowed haying operations to move forward.

Crop Extension Specialist from the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture Meghan Rosso says fall cereals are 6 per cent ahead of schedule, 90 per cent normal and 4 per cent behind. Pulse crops are 4 per cent ahead, 78 per cent normal, and 18 per cent behind. Spring cereals and oilseeds are still showing to be the furthest behind in their stages of development.

Name That Tune: week four

Week four of Name That Tune was a success and Tyler Altermatt walked away with a gift card to Humboldt Sobeys.

Canadian flights, hospitals, border disrupted during global technology outage

A global technology outage had grounded flights, disrupted hospitals and backed up border crossings in Canada on Friday, as reported issues persisted hours after the issues with Microsoft services were said to be getting fixed.

Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike said that the issue believed to be behind the outage was not a security incident or cyberattack.  The issue affected Microsoft 365 apps and services, and escalating disruptions continued after the technology company said it was gradually fixing it.

East Central 18U AAA Red Sox pick up convincing win over Saskatoon Cubs

The East Central AAA 18U Red Sox dominated the Saskatoon Cubs last night, earning themselves a 9-2 win.

Dallen Rude led the way at the plate for the Red Sox with a pair of home runs and three RBIs.
It was a quick start for the Red Sox opening up with a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning. After extending the lead to 5-0 in the 5th, the Cubs responded with a pair of runs in the top of the 6th, the Red Sox put the game away in the bottom of the inning with four runs to make the final 9-2. 

East Central 15U AAA Dodgers come up short against Saskatoon Expos

It was a high scoring affair on Thursday night between the East Central AAA 15U Dodgers and Saskatoon Expos, with the Expos coming up on top with 12-9. 

The Dodgers jumped ahead in the 2nd inning with a pair of runs before the Expos scored four in the bottom of the inning. The Dodgers responded with five runs over the next two innings which the Expos matched in the bottom of the 4th. The Dodgers tied the game in the top of the 5th with two runs, but the Expos would seal the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the 6th.
