Humboldt RCMP seeking public assistance with theft in Humboldt

The Humboldt RCMP is asking the public’s assistance in identifying an individual responsible for a theft that occurred in the 2000 block of 8th Avenue in Humboldt.  

On Monday, July 15, the Humboldt RCMP received a complaint that a theft occurred at a business in the city. The incident occurred at approximately 9:10 pm, with numerous items stolen. Attached in the article is a photograph of a person of interest in the investigation.  

All major grocers agree to sign on to Canada's Grocery Sector Code of Conduct

The announcement was released during the Federal, Provincial and Territorial Agriculture Ministers annual conference.

In a statement they note that : "After years of work and widespread industry participation, all major retailers have agreed to join the Grocery Sector Code of Conduct. This includes Loblaw, Sobeys, and Metro, and most recently, Walmart and Costco. "

'Anything is possible': Gen. Jennie Carignan takes over command of Armed Forces

Gen. Jennie Carignan was a little emotional on Thursday as she spoke to reporters about what it means to take over command of the Canadian Armed Forces. 

It's an honour that felt like the natural next step in her career, she said, something she's worked toward for the last 38 years. It also means, for other women or marginalized people, that "it's possible, folks — the door is open."

"This is actually what my parents used to tell me: 'Anything is possible. You can do anything,'" she said. 

Humboldt's Brad Lauer named Head Coach of the Spokane Chiefs

Brad Lauer is back in the Western Hockey League (WHL) as the Spokane Chiefs have named the Humboldt product the team's new head coach. 

The past two seasons Lauer has been an assistant coach with the Winnipeg Jets. Prior to joining the Jets, Lauer was behind the bench as head coach of the Edmonton Oil Kings leading them to a WHL Championship in 2021-22. During that season the Oil Kings established new franchise records for longest win-streak in a single season (14 games) and best winning percentage (.765).

Watrous welcomes new group home for persons with intellectual disabilities

A new group home in Watrous will now allow four individuals with intellectual disabilities a safe living space. 

The home is operated by the Interlake Human Resources Corporation (IHRC) and received support from the provincial government with $1.4 million in construction funding from the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation, the Ministry of Social Services is providing approximately $505,000 in annual operating funding.

Water Security Agency funding supports local dam projects

Saskatchewan’s Water Security Agency (WSA) is investing more than $18 million in eastern Saskatchewan water infrastructure projects. Those projects manage water flow and provide infrastructure to communities in the region. Among the local projects that will see funding are the Dellwood Brook Dam and the Round Lake (Sinfield) Dam.
