Cheers erupted in a Winnipeg courtroom, spilling out onto downtown streets Thursday, as family members who lost their loved ones at the hands of a serial killer said they had finally received justice.

A judge convicted Jeremy Skibicki of first-degree murder in the 2022 slayings of four women in a case that put another bright spotlight on the issue of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls in Canada.

Jorden Myran, whose sister Marcedes Myran was killed, said she held back tears when the judge delivered the verdict.

Federal Court in Vancouver is to hear a case today from the Saskatchewan government asking for an injunction to stop the Canada Revenue Agency from collecting millions in carbon levy money.

Premier Scott Moe's government argues it's unconstitutional for Ottawa to take from its bank account, and that it's unfair for Saskatchewan to pay.

Earlier this year, Saskatchewan had stopped remitting the carbon levy on natural gas to Ottawa, after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau exempted home-heating oil users from paying. 

Work is already underway on a new beef processing line and warehouse expansion.

The $90 million investment includes a new patty processing line and a state-of-the-art fulfillment centre, that is expected to be completed for the fall of 2025.

With the expansion, JBS Canada will produce almost seven million more kilograms of beef patties every year for restaurants in Western Canada.

Premier Danielle Smith says JBS is a cornerstone in Brooks, creating jobs and ensuring Alberta’s world-renowned beef makes it to the millions who love to eat it.

The biggest athletic competition in the province is just around the corner. 

From July 21-27, the Saskatchewan Summer Games will take place in Lloydminster. 

On Thursday, the Prairie Central district held a pep rally in Davidson and unveiled the athletes that will be competing.

The U15A East Central Wolverines will be in Muenster this weekend for a pair of double headers. 

Friday night they meet the Twin City Angels for a pair of 5-inning games at 6:00

Saturday they will meet the Prince Albert Aces with opening pitches set for 10:30 and 1:00. As well, the concession will be open for Saturday's games.

These games will be the final games for the Wolverines before they take part in the 15A provincials in Prince Albert. 
 

The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) issued a provincial fire ban taking effect at noon (12:00 pm) on Thursday, July 11.  

Crown lands and provincial parks, provincial recreation sites and the Northern Saskatchewan Administration District are affected. 

Open fires, controlled burns and fireworks, also includes all land within 4.5 km of the provincial forest boundary. 

Every day in Saskatchewan, the STARS Air Ambulance flies about three missions, taking people in need of urgent medical care from their homes in rural and remote Saskatchewan to hospitals in larger centres.

Bonny Fortin was one of those patients. During the cesarian section for her fourth son, her iliac vein was severed, and she began losing blood rapidly.

“So, STARS was dispatched. They flew me from Swift Current to Regina where I had a specialist repair my vein, but in the meantime, if I didn’t have STARS, I am certain that I would have died.”

Saskatchewan's New legislation around Animal Production Regulations consolidates four existing Acts related to animal production into one.

It also reduces ten sets of regulations into a single set, which reduces the red tape and simplifies the legislation.
