Saskatchewan's New legislation around Animal Production Regulations consolidates four existing Acts related to animal production into one.

It also reduces ten sets of regulations into a single set, which reduces the red tape and simplifies the legislation. 

Agriculture Minister David Marit says these changes are a positive step toward modernizing and streamlining regulatory processes for  producers  

This past weekend, Humboldt Hammerheads swimmer Aidra Angelstad established new standards. 

Angelstad set three new provincial records at the Melfort Marlins Swim Meet in Nipawin.  

On Saturday, she broke the record in the girls 15-17 50m backstroke, previously set in 2004. Then she broke her own, newly set, record again the next day. 

A man who admitted to killing four women in Winnipeg but claimed he was too mentally ill to be held responsible has been found guilty of first-degree murder.

Defence lawyers had argued Jeremy Skibicki was suffering from schizophrenia at the time of the slayings in 2022 and should be found not criminally responsible and detained in a hospital.

But Crown prosecutors said he had the mental capacity and awareness to commit and cover up the killings.

People in a packed courtroom cheered and clapped when the verdict came down Thursday. Skibicki showed little emotion.

Get set to get ‘salty’ as the 5th annual Salt Shaker surfs into Manitou Beach this weekend from July 12-14. It’s a phantasmagorical celebration of summertime music that has something for all ages and all musical tastes. Best of all, the three-day summer festival makes use of many of the iconic Beach stages and haunts for music and mirth. 

First Nations chiefs have heard enough promises and "performative reconciliation," Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre said Thursday, adding they deserve a partnership based on honest conversations.

It was the first time Poilievre was addressing the Assembly of First Nations, an organization representing more than 600 First Nations that had a tense relationship with the Conservatives when former prime minister Stephen Harper was in power.

Saskatchewan Conservation Officers kept busy for two of the weekends this spring, May 18th and 19th, and May 25th and 26th, conducting fisheries compliance checks on anglers at the Regina Beach pier on Last Mountain Lake. 

In all, 168 anglers were given compliance checks, with a variety of violations uncovered, including those being over the limit on walleye and upper-sized walleye, using more than one line in open waters, and being more than 25 meters from a fishing line.

As a result of the inspections, officers issued 15 charges and seized 35 walleye. 

The Horizon School Division has updated its major capital project in Kelvington with the renovations to the existing high school in preparation for the merging of the Robert Melrose Elementary School. 

The project was approved by the Ministry of Education in April of 2023 with a 35 percent budget approval coming down in December. Following that, it was time to get input on the design and construction.  

There’s excitement in the air at Muenster’s St. Peter’s College as the College and the University of Saskatchewan jointly announced that USask’s full four-year Nursing Degree program will be available at the College.  

A joint release from St. Peter’s College and the USask College of Nursing states that the expanded partnership reflects the “learn where you live” philosophy, giving students from east central Saskatchewan the opportunity to study nursing closer to home. 

Along with the sizzling summer temperatures, there will be another incentive to head to the lake this weekend with it being Free Fishing Weekend (July 13 &14) in Saskatchewan. 

Residents and visitors of the province are welcome to drop a line and give angling a try, no license required. 

During the weekend, anglers can fish without a license on any public waters open to sport fishing.
