February's Protective Services Report

During Monday’s City Council Executive meeting, the monthly report for Protective Services was reported by Director Mike Kwasnica.  

In February, the Fire Department responded to six incidents within the city, including a pair of fire alarm responses.  

As well, they Fire Department attended four incidents in the area, including a vehicle fire, a structural fire, a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision and a single vehicle rollover.  

Canadian pride surges in face of Trump's tariff, sovereignty threats: Leger poll

A new poll suggests Canadians' sense of national pride has surged in response to U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs and threats against the country's sovereignty.

The poll, conducted by Leger Marketing for the Association for Canadian Studies, says that the number of people saying they're proud to be Canadian has jumped from 80 per cent in November 2024 to 86 per cent this month.

Liberal Leader Mark Carney is hoping to be sworn in as Canada's 24th prime minister by the end of the week but there are some logistical hurdles like security clearances for senior members of his transition team that must happen first.

Carney won a landslide victory to take the helm of the Liberals from Justin Trudeau on Sunday night but he isn't yet the prime minister.

With less than a week remaining in the regular season of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) season, the playoff picture is still unsettled.  

What we do know is that the Melfort Mustangs will finish with the best record in the league and will have home-ice advantage throughout the playoffs.  

The Flin Flon Bombers will have the second seed in the playoffs. 

SARM preparing for annual convention under shadow of US tariffs, other worries

The Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) is starting its annual convention today, bringing in rural municipality leaders to discuss some of the latest topics affecting them.

The convention technically started yesterday with a few programs at their show in Saskatoon, with some speakers invited.

NDP Leader Carla Beck reflects on trade situation during visit to Humboldt

NDP Opposition Leader Carla Beck made a stop in Humboldt on Friday, March 7 as she gathered information on the region and spoke to local citizens on both the opportunities and challenges faced in the region.  

Along with Beck was Shadow Minister for Municipal Affairs, Jared Clark, and Regina Rochdale MLA Joan Pratchler who originally hails from the Muenster area and acts as the Shadow Minister for Early Learning and Child Care. 

Trump says Canada will pay 'financial price' as he doubles tariffs on steel, aluminum

U.S. President Donald Trump said Canada will pay a "financial price" after vowing Tuesday to double the tariff on Canadian steel and aluminum imports in response to Ontario's surcharge on electricity exports to the United States.

"They will pay a financial price for this so big that it will be read about in History Books for many years to come!" Trump posted on social media.
