Passage of Bill C-202 brings mixed reviews and concerns over future trade talks

Canada's supply managed sector is breathing a sigh of relief with the passage of Bill C-202 which protects it from any further concessions in future trade talks.

An identical bill died on the order paper in the last session but this time moved quickly through Parliament and the Senate, before receiving Royal Assent last week.

The Dairy Farmers of Canada, Chicken Farmers of Canada, Egg Farmers of Canada, Turkey Farmers of Canada, and the Canadian Hatching Egg Producers issued a joint statement supporting the legislation.

Punnichy RCMP are attempting to find a missing 14-year-old girl.  

On June 19, they received a report that Meadow Severight-Asapace was missing and was last seen on the George Gordon First Nation.

Province increases rail maintenance funding for Short Line Railways

Short Line Railways have received a significant increase in funding for rail maintenance on the 2,123 kilometres of track they operate in Saskatchewan.

Highways Minister David Marit says up to $1 million dollars is available from the Province for the 13 short lines through the 50-50 cost shared Short Line Rail Improvement Program (SRIP), which brings the total rail infrastructure investment up to $2 million for this year.

Muenster Cooperative Childcare Centre breaks ground after years of planning

After years of planning, uncertainty, and perseverance, the Muenster Cooperative Childcare Centre has officially broken ground on its new facility, marking a significant milestone for the town and surrounding region. 

“It’s definitely been a long haul,” said Kassidy Rueve, interim vice-president of the daycare board. “But with our community support, we’ve finally broken ground. So, it’s very exciting.” 

Watson Streetfest rains down only sweet sounds

The rain held off the majority of the evening, and the temperatures were mild enough to enjoy another incredible night of music on Watson’s Main Street for its annual Streetfest.

Western Saskatchewan sees the most rain

All rainfall and severe thunderstorm warnings have come to an end Sunday morning in Saskatchewan. In terms of rainfall amount from Saturday, unofficial amounts as provided by weatherstats.ca indicates Biggar saw 56.3 millimetres of rain, Lucky Lake at 50.2 millimetres, while Kindersley, which was also under a rainfal warning recorded 32.5 millimetres as of 6 a.m. Sunday morning. Saskatoon saw 26.3 millimetres with amounts tapering off as you go eastward like Watrous with 10.6 and Humboldt at 10 millimetres. Regina saw 21.
