Food inflation affecting cold treats as latest CPI numbers released

As the heat beats down on the southeast, many will be going for cold treats like ice cream but may find prices raised. That's similarly reported for other foods, as the most recent Consumer Price Index numbers from Statistics Canada showed a 3.17 per cent increase year-over-year in food prices.

Harvest edition of Meal in the Field begins with the Dyok Family

The 2025 Harvest edition of Meal of the Field with Bolt FM & Discover Humboldt got underway on Thursday with a visit to the lucky winners of Week 1, Al & Lana Dyok who farm near Quill Lake.  

Lana was the one who entered the Dyok family in the sweepstakes and they were rewarded with a delicious meal courtesy of Boston Pizza.  

This year, the Dyok farm has seeded green and yellow peas, wheat and new this year, fava beans.  

A best of the west battle set in Calgary between Roughriders and Stampeders

It will be the toughest test so far in the 2025 Canadian Football League on Saturday for the Saskatchewan Roughriders as they meet the Calgary Stampeders. 

The only blemish on the Roughriders record was a 24-10 loss to the Stampeders on July 12, in a game that was postponed for a day due to poor air quality from the northern wildfires.  

Saskatchewan budget takes big hit, from $12M surplus to $349M deficit

Saskatchewan's financial fortunes this year have taken a dramatic hit.

The province had budgeted a $12-million surplus this fiscal year, but a first-quarter update issued Friday announced that the modest surplus is now on track to be a $349-million deficit.

It's tying the reversal to a $172-million drop in revenues, most of it from its Crown agency, SaskPower.

Rain slows down the start of harvest in the province while local farmers wait to begin

Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms around the province slowed down progress in areas to begin harvesting in Saskatchewan according to the Crop Report from the Ministry of Agriculture. 

 The provincial harvest progress total last week was three per cent, which is behind our five- and 10-year averages. The combination of rainfall, humidity and low temperatures delayed crop development and harvest progress. The southwest continues to lead in harvest progress, sitting at eight per cent harvest completed.  

SaskTel cellular outage affecting entire province


SaskTel is currently experiencing a province-wide service outage that is affecting both cellular network calls and Business Voice services.

9-1-1 emergency calls are not affected by the current outage.

There is currently no estimated time of repair as SaskTel technicians work to resolve the issue.

Saskatchewan RCMP is still able to receive 911 calls, but 310-RCMP is not operational at this time. 

RCMP remind residents that dialling 911 is for emergencies and crimes in progress only.

Humboldt RCMP searching for information about a theft of a vehicle

The Humboldt RCMP is seeking information about the theft of a vehicle that occurred between July 13 and 14 on 1100 block of 9th Street. 

Items were taken from the vehicle including a black purse, white gym bag, green air pods, ID and cash. Some of the property and one piece of ID was recovered loose on 9th Street. 

Travelling the world with the Summer Reading Program

The quickest trip around the world begins when you turn the page.  

Kids in Humboldt have travelled the world this summer thanks to the Reid Thompson Public Library. 

Over the last couple of months, kids have been busy reading books with the Summer Reading Program with the theme “Around the World.” 

Head Librarian Emma Lewis says with just over a week left in the program, the kids have been busy this summer. 

Strong start for Saskatchewan teams at National Baseball Championships

It was a good day on Thursday for the Saskatchewan teams at the National Baseball Championships in Regina.

Team Saskatchewan opened the day with a 4-3 win over Quebec.

Joel Bauml had two hits and an RBI, while Tom Hooker had a hit and an RBI

In the late game, the Regina Trappers beat Nova Scotia 7-1.

Cole Bauml had two hits and drove in two runs.

Today Saskatchewan takes on Ontario at 10:00 am and the Regina Trappers meet Manitoba at 7:00 pm
