Union head says new federal government needs to regain public servants' trust

The head of one of Canada's largest federal unions says the federal government needs to focus on repairing the relationship between public servants and management.

Nathan Prier, president of the Canadian Association of Professional Employees, said this is a "delicate moment" and that new Treasury Board President Shafqat Ali has his work cut out for him.

Prier said the Trudeau government made several questionable decisions that eroded trust among workers. They included a messy return-to-office rollout that was conducted without consulting employees, he said.

Bank of Canada rate cut odds for June fall after April inflation data

Signs that underlying inflation was picking up in April put the Bank of Canada in a tricky position ahead of its June interest rate decision, with some economists arguing a second straight pause is now more likely.

"It is going to make it a much more challenging backdrop for the Bank of Canada to continue cutting rates, at least in the near term," said Benjamin Reitzes, managing director of Canadian rates and macro strategist at BMO Capital Markets.

Melfort RCMP asks the public to report sightings of Jasmine Head

Melfort RCMP are attempting to locate 30-year-old Jasmine Head of James Smith Cree Nation. She also goes by the name ‘Jazmyne Head’.   

She is wanted on a warrant by Melfort RCMP for firearms charges. These charges were laid in relation to a November 2024 investigation.

Separatists launch town halls in Saskatchewan

In a news conference today, Saskatchewan NDP discussed how Premier Scott Moe refused to hold a vote on keeping Saskatchewan in Canada, and now fifteen town halls promoting separatism are scheduled leading up until the end of June. The first one set for this weekend is in Saskatoon, according to the Unified Grassroots leader, Nadine Ness.

Three charged following a firearm discharged on James Smith Cree Nation

Three individuals have been charged following a firearm being discharged on the James Smith Cree Nation this past weekend. 

According to an RCMP investigation, it was determined that the suspects entered a residence sometime between 11:30 p.m. on Friday, May 16 and 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 17 and were armed with firearms and threatened residents, before discharging a firearm and injuring an adult male, and assaulted other adult occupants.
