SaskPower seeks public input for proposed power line

SaskPower has announced a significant investment to upgrade power infrastructure in the Lanigan and Melfort regions, with the aim of increasing reliability and preparing for future energy demands. The $134 million initiative includes the construction of a new switching station near Lanigan and a new 230-kilovolt (kV) double-circuit power line stretching more than 100 kilometres. 

Update: Power outage Humboldt and area

The power has been restored. SaskPower noted that 3244 customers were impacted by the outage. 


A power outage has been reported in Humboldt and surrounding areas.

SaskPower is aware of the outage and have reported the following:

Crews have been dispatched and are determining the cause and repair time for the outage reported in Humboldt, Burr, and all surrounding rurals.

No other updates have been provided at this time. 

Opening ceremonies and skills competition included in 11U Provincial Baseball weekend in Humboldt

Championship baseball will be in the city this weekend.  

 The 11U AA Tier 1 Provincial Championships will take place in Humboldt with three full days of action on the diamond featuring nine teams including the host Humboldt Dodgers. 

Assistant Coach Nicole Unrau says along with the games, there will be opening ceremonies on Friday night at 7:00. 40 Ounce Philosophy will be on hand to provide music for the ceremonies and the introductions of the participating squads. 

55+ Camp comes loaded with summer activities

There’s another fun program offering from Prairie Sky Trails Association, and this one is for the 55 plus age group. 

Prairie Sky Trails Association offers its first ever 55+ Summer Camp. The idea is to provide fun and engaging activities for people in the age group. The camp runs from August 6 for four consecutive weeks, one day a week. 

Provincial Traffic Safety grants distributed to 61 communities

The latest recipients from the Provincial Safety Traffic Fund were announced on Monday.

Among them were Quill Lake, Colonsay, and Fishing Lake First Nation who will use the funds for some road safety projects.  

In Quill Lake, a crosswalk will be installed inside of a school zone to increase safety for pedestrians and vulnerable road users. The grant was $24,824. 

Saskatchewan Opposition say the government handed over a contract to another out-of-province company

The Saskatchewan NDP are sounding the alarm today about the Saskatchewan Government awarding the province’s Northern Saskatchewan tire recycling contract to Emterra Tire Recycling, a company headquartered in Ontario, which the Saskatchewan NDP say follows the provincial government’s decision to hand the southern contract to U.S.-based company CRM.  In both cases, the Opposition say the work was previously done by Shercom Industries, a Saskatchewan company that invested over $20 million into a recycling facility just north of Saskatoon.  The facility is now shuttered, and more than 90 Saskat

Inflation rises to 1.9% in June as vehicle price hikes accelerate

The annual pace of inflation accelerated to 1.9 per cent in June as consumers were paying more at car dealerships, Statistics Canada said Tuesday.

The June price hike is up from 1.7 per cent in May and was largely in line with economists’ expectations.

StatCan said gasoline prices were nearly unchanged in June as higher crude oil prices and geopolitical conflicts ratcheted up pressure at the pumps. Motorists saw a steeper monthly decline in prices this time last year, which the agency said led to a rise in headline inflation.

Carney to meet with Incident Response Group to discuss the wildfire situation

Prime Minister Mark Carney is scheduled to convene the Incident Response Group in Ottawa today to discuss the ongoing wildfire situation across the country.

Carney also convened the group of ministers and senior officials a little over a month ago in response to an earlier wave of wildfires, which peaked in May and June, then receded, and have now flared up again.

More than 6,000 people are currently out of their homes in Manitoba, and the communities of Lynn Lake and Snow Lake ordered residents to flee for the second time in just weeks.
