Grassland Sheep Exhibition returns to Humboldt Uniplex July 18-20

Each year for the past 48 years, the Saskatchewan Sheep industry has hosted a summer sheep show and sale. On July 18th – 20th, 2025 the Saskatchewan Sheep Breeders Association and the Saskatchewan Sheep Development Board are co-hosting the 2025 Grasslands Sheep Exhibition in Humboldt, SK at the Humboldt Uniplex. 

Tax watchdog sounds alarm on Saskatchewan’s soaring debt with province-wide tour

A national taxpayers' watchdog is taking its message on the road this summer, warning Saskatchewan residents about what it calls the province’s “runaway debt problem.” The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) brought its massive “debt clock” truck to Humboldt on Tuesday, July 15, a visual reminder of how quickly the province’s debt is rising in real time. 

Saskatchewan sees strong manufacturing surge, fueling economic momentum says government release

Saskatchewan's manufacturing sector continues to drive economic momentum, with new data showing a 4.4 per cent increase in sales for May 2025 compared to April. A provincial government release states that this marks the second-highest month-over-month growth among all Canadian provinces, underscoring Saskatchewan's expanding economic footprint. 

Baseball recap: Royals split; 18UAAA Red Sox capture a win

It was a busy baseball night on Tuesday with the East Central 18UAAA Red Sox and the Marysburg Royals both taking to the road.  

The Red Sox were in Swift Current facing down the Z7 Sun Devils where they pulled back into the win column.  

Dayne Schommer opened on the mound for the Red Sox keeping the hit count low for the Sun Devils.  

Yard maintenance a growing concern inside of monthly Protective Services report

As part of Monday’s City Council executive meeting, the monthly protective services report was delivered. 

Inside of the Community Safety Officer’s report, property maintenance was a key issue in June. Following the May long weekend, numerous door knockers as well as orders on some of our repeat offender properties. Three orders that expired in the month of June required City intervention. This included garbage removal and yard maintenance at the properties. 

RCMP arrest alleged hijacker at Vancouver airport after airspace shut down

RCMP say they've arrested the pilot of a small aircraft that was allegedly hijacked from Victoria and flown to Vancouver International Airport, where other flights had to be temporarily halted.

RCMP in Richmond, B.C., say in a statement that a report came in just after 1 p.m. Tuesday about a Cessna that "had been hijacked" and was on its way to Vancouver.

Police say the "sole occupant" of the plane was arrested after it touched down. 

Stubborn core inflation in June likely cements calls for Bank of Canada rate hold

Underlying inflation remained stubbornly hot in June, leading financial markets and many economists to firm up calls for a third straight interest rate hold from the Bank of Canada later this month.

Statistics Canada said Tuesday that the annual pace of inflation accelerated to 1.9 per cent in June, up from 1.7 per cent in May and largely in line with economists’ expectations.

Prices didn't ease much at the gas pumps last month, the agency said, and higher prices on motor vehicles and other durable goods also drove inflation higher.

Global support is helping Saskatchewan with northern wildfires

The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) issued an update on the wildfire situation in northern Saskatchewan on Tuesday afternoon. 

As of 11:00 am, there were 50 active wildfires in Saskatchewan. Of those active fires, four are categorized as contained, 12 are not contained, 18 are ongoing assessment, and 16 are listed as protecting values.
