Watson gets a double dose of great music and an Oilers win at Street Fest

Fingers were flying, boots were stomping, and the occasional wail of delight from die hard Oiler fans and their bandwagon jumping compatriots rose through the evening din on Friday night in Watson. 

The 3rd annual Street Fest was another smashing success, with an enthusiastic turnout for the pair of great bands that played into the night. 

East Central U15 Wolverines claim City Championship

The East Central U15 Wolverines capped off a successful by claiming the city championship on the weekend in Saskatoon.  

Heading into the championship playoffs, the Wolverines were seeded third after a record of 8-4-2 during the regular season.  

Everything came together for the squad in the playoffs with a perfect weekend, picking up four straight wins on route to the city title.  

Indigenous Peoples Day draws large crowd to celebrate with Metis Nation Saskatchewan

Humboldt and area residents gathered in civic park on Friday June 21st to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day. The gathering was hosted by Métis Nation Saskatchewan who provided a burger luncheon courtesy of the Humboldt Co-op. Kids were invited to the Humboldt aquatic centre afterward for a free swim. 

Brent Digness, Minister of Economic Development for Métis Nation Saskatchewan greeted everyone as master of ceremonies. 

Prairie Pest Monitoring Network update

The June 21st Prairie Pest update covers a lot of ground with information on a variety of insects for farmers to be aware of covering insect identification, scouting tips, potential issues and more.

Dr. Meghan Vankosky, a field crop entamologist with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, works with her AAFC and her provincial counterparts in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta in putting together the weekly report and identifying any potential issues.

Canadians throw parties, gather with friends to cheer on Oilers in Stanley Cup final

The Edmonton Oilers may not be on home ice when they try to clinch the Stanley Cup against the Florida Panthers on Monday night, but screams of support will resound across Canada from rinkside watch parties, bars, seniors homes and ordinary living rooms.

"We cheer them on every single game of the season," said Derrick DeMone, an Oilers fan in Sydney, N.S., who will be watching at home with his sons, aged 24, 14 and 12.

"I haven't felt like this since I was a young boy, I'll tell you that."

CANCELLED: Threating weather, tornado warning for Humboldt and surround areas

Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado. Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible.

A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado is located 20 west of Fulda, moving east at 35 km/h.

Hazard: Golfball size hail and 100 km/h wind gusts.

Sporting sequins and silver, Mama Stanley becomes an Edmonton celebrity for playoffs

Edmonton Oilers fans crowd around Mary Loewen in a plaza outside the team's home arena during every playoffs game, asking to have their pictures taken with the superfan who's dressed as the Stanley Cup.

Loewen dons a sequined blazer, wears silver gloves and glasses, and covers her face in silver makeup. Then she puts on her "crown" which is meant to imitate the bowl of the famous trophy.

It has 3,500 sequins, and they were all put in by hand.

Possibility of snowier, colder winter rises as La Nina system set to take over

Saskatchewan as a whole is seeing a shift in weather patterns as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has announced that the current El Nino system has ended.

After having that system exist through the winter, a change in weather patterns could mean this winter will see a very different outcome.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Terri Lang talks about the changing of patterns.

'Build relationships on both sides': Provinces make push ahead of U.S. election

Provinces are reaching out to Democrats and Republicans alike to make their case for co-operation, bolstering efforts by the federal government to ensure Canada is prepared for any outcome in the upcoming United States election.

"I see provinces and Team Canada both ramping up their efforts," said Laura Dawson, an expert on Canada-U.S. relations and the executive director of the Future Borders Coalition.
