Seniors at Dufferin Villa celebrate new flag as symbol of home
A heartfelt project at Dufferin Villa in Portage la Prairie came full circle last Thursday, as tenants and staff gathered outside the seniors' residence to proudly raise a new community flag.
What began as a simple idea from four residents turned into a meaningful symbol of pride, place, and home, brought to life entirely by the people who live there.
Adrienne Matthews-McCulley, manager at Dufferin Villa, says the idea took shape last year, when a few tenants envisioned something special to mark their community.

Midland MLA Lauren Stone is renewing her push for the Manitoba government to address worsening conditions at Elm Creek School’s gymnasium.
Stone says the situation has not improved since she first raised the issue in the Legislature, and she’s frustrated by the lack of response.
Still no answer from province
Despite petitions and public concern, Stone says the provincial government has yet to respond to requests for help.
Water extension project brings long-awaited upgrade to RM of St. François Xavier
A major infrastructure upgrade is set to begin in the Rural Municipality of St. François Xavier after years of planning. Reeve Delmer Nott says the sod-turning ceremony scheduled for July 3 marks the beginning of a long-awaited water extension project.
Nott explains the far west end of the municipality has long lacked access to piped water, leaving residents reliant on cisterns, wells or truck-hauling services. This project will finally give them a reliable option.

Winnipeg’s dominant defence fuels 2-0 start with huge win in Vancouver
It’s early — waaay too early — to make any bold declarations and concrete proclamations. Shoot, it’s still June.
Yet, say this about the work-in-progress Winnipeg Blue Bombers two weeks into the Canadian Football League season:
There are just enough flashes of brilliance on offence and special teams — both units backed by a stifling defence — to have everyone in Bomberland sliding to the front of their collective seats wanting to witness much, much more of the 2025 edition.
