RCMP arrest man for weapons related offences

A 34-year-old local man remains in custody following his arrest on weapons-related charges and outstanding orders, RCMP confirmed.

On March 31, 2025, Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to reports of a person waving a weapon while walking along 6th Street NW. Officers located a suspect matching the provided description on 11th Street NW after a brief pursuit on foot.

A search of the man revealed a weapon in his possession.

Missing Carberry man found deceased

Donald Paschke from Carberry was reported missing to RCMP on April 12, and has since been located deceased.

Investigation continues awaiting word from the autopsy.

Poilievre pledges veterans' supports; Carney offers cheaper access to parks, museums

Portage Regional Landfill proposes Leachate Management Plan to enhance safety

The Portage Regional Landfill presented a new Leachate Management Plan to the Rural Municipality (RM) of Portage la Prairie at the recent RM meeting, outlining critical upgrades to contain contaminated liquids and protect local water sources. Landfill Manager Robert Pohl details the four-phase initiative and is excited to move forward so that the landfill can fulfill its role in meeting federal environmental standards and mitigating risks posed by toxic leachates.

Terriers live to play another day

The Portage Terriers staved off elimination on Saturday night, beating the Dauphin Kings 3-0 on home ice. Penalty trouble cost the Terriers early in the series, but on Saturday night they locked it down giving up four power plays to Dauphin but they killed them all off.

Portage came out firing in the first period and scored in the first three minutes. Adam Belzil was left alone in front of the net and he was able to deke past Dauphin goalie Cole Sheffield to open the scoring. The Dogs outshot the Kings 16-9 through 20 minutes.
