The weekend kicks off bright and early Saturday morning with a pancake breakfast, followed by the much-loved parade, which organizer Ramonde Maxfield describes as "grassroots and full of charm."

Ottawa says it will work to align its flight security regulations with those in the U.S. after Washington dropped a rule that required passengers to remove their shoes during security screenings.
U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced Tuesday that passengers at American airports no longer need to remove their shoes because officials have found other ways to keep travellers safe.
Canada does not require passengers flying domestically or to non-U.S. destinations to take off their shoes for screening, unless a security officer decides it's necessary.

Cochrane operations centre straining to keep pace with growth
Cochrane’s population has grown by 35,000 since its current operations centre was established, yet the facility continues to function on the same three-acre site.

Town council recently received an update on the second phase of an operational needs assessment. The goal is to develop a strategy to support a population of 68,000 in the short term, and 90,000 by 2050.
