Sports Update - Wednesday, June 8th
Team Canada has a 1-1 record at the 2022 World U18 Women's Hockey Championship in Madison, Wisconsin. Rhea Hicks of Brampton scored twice and Mari Pietersen of Goodwood, Ont. made 33 saves as Canada downed Sweden 3-1. Team Canada will play its final preliminary round game Thursday against the United States.
Sports Update - Wednesday, May 4th
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers selected six players in the 2022 CFL Draft. The defending Grey Cup champions choose University of Waterloo defensive back Tyrell Ford with the 13th overall selection. Winnipeg also took University of Manitoba defensive lineman Cole Adamson; University of Ottawa defensive back Chris Ciguineau; University of Guelph defensive lineman Jeremy Kapelanski; Carleton University defensive back Cedrick Lavigne and Queen’s University fullback Konner Burtenshaw.
Sports Update - Tuesday April 26th
The Pembina Valley Twisters season came to an end Monday night at Bell MTS Iceplex. Noah Gilbert stopped all 24 shots he faced as the St. James Canucks shutout Pembina Valley 5-0 and captured the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League's best-of-seven final four games to one. Kale Price, Zach Greenwood, Tyrone Willan, Brady Whitely and Ashton Romaniuk did the goal scoring for the Canucks. Twisters netminder Logan Enns faced 42 shots including 19 in the first period. It's the second MMJHL championship for St. James. The Canucks won their first titile in 1998.
Manitoba champs, Team McEwen to part ways
The reigning Viterra Provincial Men’s champions announced Thursday they will be parting ways at the end of the 2021-22 curling season.
Mike McEwen joined Reid Carruthers, Derek Samagalski and Colin Hodgson in 2018.
The West St. Paul foursome won the Viterra Championship in 2019 & 2022.
Team McEwen qualified for the Brier all four years, representing Manitoba twice and earning a Wild Card spot the other two years.
Carruthers, Samagalski and Hodgson have curled together for eight seasons.
