Sprague congregation and border crossing guards bring Christmas cheer to local residents

Congregants of a Manitoba church have taken it upon themselves to build a food bank in their church basement and are now giving back with the help of the men and women who keep our borders safe.

Rob Dueck, Pastor of Sprague Community Church, says up until a year ago, the RM was looking after Christmas hamper distribution, and then just before Christmas 2022, they asked the church to take it over and run it, with expenses shared between the RM and the church.  

Manitoba bride walks down aisle 3 years after collision put her in wheelchair

A local bride is very thankful for the support of family and friends as her wish became a reality. 

“I didn't think my wedding day would come.” 

A collision that happened three years ago at the intersection of highways 12 and 210 near Ste Anne, may have changed the trajectory of Brianna Seewald’s life in one way, it still took her right down the aisle towards her soon-to-be husband.

Back on Monday, April 11, 2022, dignitaries, teachers, students, staff and the residents of St. Malo gathered outside École St-Malo School, eager to hear about and see the design plans of the addition and renovation plans of the 65-year-old school. 

Addictions treatment program sees needs grow with costs on the rise

Adult and Teen Challenge held a grand opening at their latest thrift store and community offices location on Saturday, with mixed emotions.  

President and CEO of ATC of Central Canada, Daniel Emond says, while they are humbled and honoured to do the grand opening in Steinbach, this has been one of the most difficult summers that they’ve ever had.  

Going greener in the RM of Piney thanks to provincial funding

While it's not easy going green, for the RM of Piney, the recent provincial Green-Initiative funding will certainly help make the transition a little bit easier. 

Martin Van Osch, CAO for the RM of Piney says, they are working together with other RM’s in the southeast to plan for a more sustainable future for their families.  

New Vita and Area Food Bank closer to becoming reality

There is a new food bank coming to the southeast corner of the province and Jane Roman of Vita is helping to get it started. 

The Vita and Area Food Bank initiative began when Roman realized that there were people from Vita traveling to Grunthal for food hampers.  

“So, I thought it was time that Vita stepped up and provide that service here.”  

Retired Pansy farmer plants a large garden for local food bank

A retired farming couple is growing a large garden this summer, in hopes of donating the vegetables to local food banks.  

Melvin Kachur and his wife, Helen, live in Pansy, next to the hall, and says they have about a two-and-a-half-acre garden.  

“We're cultivating it and we're growing veggies for the food banks.” 

Kachur’s motto is “Let’s fight hunger.”
