Every year on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, people in Canada stop and remember those who fought for our country. It's Remembrance Day and once again the city and surrounding area of Portage are invited to gather at Stride Place.

Media Liason Bob Oldford with Royal Canadian Legion Branch 65 says that if you plan on attending this year's ceremony, ensure you have a seat at around 10:30 a.m.

Oldford notes that having the continued support means the world to him for many reasons.

"As a veteran and as a member of the Legion, it means a lot to see the arena filling up with those who remember, not just the older generation and some veterans who will be paraded onto the floor. But, also the youth that comes because it brings home a great point that this community does not forget and remembers those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice."

Oldford notes that when the time comes, lay your poppy to rest at the downtown cenotaph.

He also says that those involved with the ceremony are invited down to the Portage Legion Branch 65 for a gathering they happily put on yearly.

Regarding businesses, the City of Portage will be put on a standstill until 1 p.m. as hours of operation will change to honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice and those who continue to serve our country.
