This week, the Thursday Thunder Player of the Week is 18-year-old rookie Grady Hauk.
Hauk, who is from Airdrie grew up playing hockey within the city with teams like the Airdrie Xtreme U15 AAA, AC Avalanche U16 AAA.
A pair of one-goal losses to Heritage Junior Hockey League North Division opponents this past weekend have dropped the Airdrie Techmation Thunder record to 5-14-1 on the season, leaving them in sixth place in the North. Friday they lost 3-2 to the Three Hills Thrashers and lost Sunday 4-3 to the Mountain View Colts.
"Grady continues to gain traction with one goal and one assist this weekend. He's been a nice addition this season," Stated Thunder General Manager Shaun Guest.
While the record might not be where the team wants it to be, Hauk does believe the team has the right mentality.
"We're on an uphill climb, and it's good to see that the guys don't like to lose. We're working hard in practice and eventually, we will get the results we want."
So far this season, in only five games played, Hauk has three goals and three assists.
"I've kind of always been more defensive, so, it's good to help a little bit more offensively."
Hauk is proud of how he has played so far, and how his team is always battling and keeping games close.
"We just got to start winning and hopefully we can start doing that."
While in his rookie season with the Thunder, Hauk does hope he is able to play with the Thunder again next season.
Next weekend the Thunder will take a swing through southern Alberta for a pair of games against South Division opponents. Saturday night they'll face the Coaldale Copperheads and will take on the Cubs in Medicine Hat Sunday afternoon.
