Anyway Gang rocks the rails in Wynyard with the CPKC Holiday Train

Rock and “rail” is alive and well on the Canadian prairies. The CPKC Holiday Train and the community of Wynyard and area gave proof on Tuesday night as the festival freight made its way across the province.  

The only thing that was disproven was the classic Sam Roberts lyric, “them kids don’t know how to dance to rock and roll,” as dozens and dozens of youngsters busted out the moves alongside their elders. Roberts and his musical cohorts, Anyway Gang, had the hundreds of railside revellers rocking on an uncharacteristically warm Saskatchewan December evening.

Muenster Library grows in size and usership

The Muenster Library, part of the Parkland Library system, has a new lease on life with its recent expansion and renovation. The departure of the Village of Muenster offices to the former credit union building allowed for the removal of a wall and the library to become a more expansive centre for reading, learning and gathering.

SaskPower to remove Federal Carbon Tax from electric home heating

According to a government release, the Saskatchewan government is directing SaskPower to stop collecting the carbon tax on electric home heating.

The change is to start Jan. 1, and will help approximately 30,000 SaskPower customers in the province. People who live in northern communities often rely on electric heat as natural gas isn’t available in those regions.

STF's Tell Them Tuesday campaign floods MLA offices with calls regarding education concerns

The Saskatchewan Teachers Federation says on December 1, MLA constituency offices were flooded with hundreds of phone calls from constituents voicing concerns about public education. More than 500 calls were made to MLA offices through STF’s Tell Them Tuesday campaign.

Watson wins again with 92nd Annual Santa Day

Watson families and visitors were out in full force both Friday evening and Saturday for the 92 Annual Santa Day. The oldest running Santa Day in the province did not disappoint were all the activities for young and old alike. 

It was standing room only in the Civic Centre for the wonderful meals provided by the Filipino community. The line was long, but the wait was worth it for the specially prepared noodles and range of mouth watering delicacies.
