Carrot River RCMP faced tense situation in apprehending a would-be fuel thief in Arborfield.
On December 7, 2023, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Carrot River RCMP received a call and responded to the incident.
Investigation determined the suspect attempted to steal fuel from a large fuel tank. He was confronted by a property representative. The suspect then began chasing the property representative in a vehicle. The property representative was not physically injured.
Officers located the suspect in a parked vehicle in Arborfield and approached it. The suspect then rammed two police vehicles and struck an unoccupied parked truck. The officers in the rammed police vehicles received minor injuries.
The vehicle came to a stop a short time later and the suspect was taken into custody. The suspect assaulted the officers while he was being arrested, and initially resisted when officers attempted to place him in cells. He refused to comply with a breath test the officers demanded.
As a result of continued investigation, 29-year-old Tristan Edge from Fort Saskatchewan, AB is charged with:
- one count, assault peace officer,
- one count, fail to stop for peace officer,
- one count, fail to comply with breath test,
- one count, resist peace officer, and
- one count, operate a conveyance in a manner that was dangerous to the public.
He is scheduled to appear in Melfort Provincial Court on December 11, 2023
