This week, the Thursday Thunder Player of the Week is 18-year-old Tyson Sandhu.
Sandhu grew up playing hockey within Airdrie with teams like the Airdrie Xtreme U15 AAA, AC Avalanche U16 AAA and the Airdrie CFR Bisons U18 AAA.
This past weekend's games were two more losses for the Airdrie Techmation Thunder as their record now sits at 5-15-2. Saturday they lost to the Coaldale Copperheads 7-6 and lost Sunday 4-0 to the Medicine Hat Cubs.
So far on the season, Sandhu has four games played, garnering two goals and five assists. Four of those points came in the Saturday game against Coaldale.
"Since joining the team, adding his speed and knowledge of the game has helped other players in their development," stated Head Coach Randy Buckle.
While the season hasn't been going the way they want it to, Sadhu does believe it can get there.
"We got a lot to work to do, but we are getting there. It's nice to see some familiar faces coming back as well from last year."
Talking about how he has played this season so far, Sadhu commended his team for helping him out.
"A four-point night comes from a good team effort. Our defense did a great job getting the puck out of our own zone for the most part and it ended up just finding my stick this past weekend."
When talking about what needs to be done to start winning more games, Sadhu mentioned when they get the lead in games they need to keep playing at that pace and keep the momentum.
"I know we got a few older guys on our team that are in their last year. I'd like to help the team and help us play as long as we can and make a playoff push."
Unsure of what the next hockey season might hold, Sandhu stated he's going to see what opportunities present themselves and go from there.
Up next on the Thunder's schedule is a game this Friday at home against the Coaldale Copperheads at the Ron Ebbesen Arena at 8 p.m.
