The current weather in Airdrie and the area is creating conditions where Rudolph's red nose would truly stand out. A thick blanket of fog has settled over the area, prompting a Fog Advisory from Environment Canada.
Near zero visibility freezing fog is occurring. Fog developed overnight and is expected to persist until late this morning. Visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.
Motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution, particularly on bridges and off-ramps, as these areas are prone to icing in such conditions. While the fog lights on vehicles can help clear the immediate area in front of them, using high beams is discouraged as it can worsen visibility. Keeping headlights on ensures other drivers can spot vehicles on the road.
Thankfully, this fog is expected to lift later in the morning, improving visibility and reducing the risks associated with travel in these conditions.
