SaskEnergy and SaskPower are launching a new rebate to help Saskatchewan residents improve their home’s efficiency.

The Home Efficiency Retrofit Rebate provides eligible homeowners with rebates to be used towards upgrading their home’s insulation, air-sealing, windows, and doors.

“Through their energy efficiency programs, SaskEnergy and SaskPower are helping customers reduce the cost to heat their homes,” said Dustin Duncan, Minister Responsible for SaskEnergy, “By minimizing energy usage, our utilities are helping customers reduce both their emissions and their monthly bills.”

To be eligible for the HERR, homeowners must first apply for the Canada Greener Homes Grant which provides rebates of up to $5,000 for home retrofits and $600 to put toward home energy audits.

The HERR offers customers additional rebates of up to $1,800 towards optimizing their home’s energy use.

An additional $200 is available to subsidize the cost of having an EnerGuide advisor evaluate the home before and after the upgrades are installed – a requirement of the CGHG.

“SaskEnergy’s energy efficiency programming is an important part of our commitment to affordability and sustainability,” said Kevin Adair, SaskEnergy Executive Vice President, Customer Service Operations, “The Home Efficiency Retrofit Rebate will assist the people of Saskatchewan in lowering their energy costs and support them in making sustainable energy choices.”

Rental spaces are ineligible for the benefit, along with properties outside of Saskatchewan.

“The HERR is another example of SaskPower striving to enable energy efficiency and sustainability in Saskatchewan,” said Rhea Brown, SaskPower Vice-President of Customer Experience and Procurement, “Making your home as efficient as possible is one of the most effective ways to save money on your utility bills, and SaskPower is pleased to work with SaskEnergy to make these improvements easier.”
