This week, the Thursday Thunder Player of the Week is 20-year-old Jeremy Jobin.
Originally from Ontario, Jobin moved to Airdrie seven years ago and has been playing hockey within Airdrie for quite some time. He has played for teams like the AC Avalanche U16 AAA and Airdrie Lightning U18 AA.
For the Airdrie Tecmation Thunder, the Christmas break is a good time for the team to regroup as they currently have a record of 5-17-2. Just this past weekend they lost two more games, one to the Coaldale Copperheads 4-1 and one to the Sylvan Lake Wranglers 7-2.
The Thunder currently sit sixth in the North Division with 12 points.
While only playing a few games with the Thunder this season, Head Coach of the Thunder Randy Buckle is happy with how he is progressing as a hockey player.
"He is becoming the leader we need and is working hard to get back to where he was last year."
Jobin has played in two seasons with the Thunder before this year. Over those two seasons, he has a total of 74 games played with 74 points.
So far this season, Jobin has played in six games, garnering one goal and four assists totalling five points.
"I could do a little bit more to help the team but it's not a bad start for my season. I definitely could be better."
Jobin hopes the team can use this Christmas break to work on team chemistry and roll into the second half of the season with all cylinders firing.
"I just think we need a little bit more practice together as we have a lot of new guys that were added recently. The chemistry is not always perfect but I feel like with a few more practices, that chemistry is going to build up."
Jobin does believe the Thunder are capable of turning the season around, making a run for the playoffs and maybe even a championship.
Currently, a manager at a local McDonald's while attending the University of Calgary, Jobin will have one year left of eligibility with the Thunder for next season, but he is unsure what his plans are as of yet.
The next game for the Thunder is Friday, January 5th, at 8 p.m. at the Ron Ebbesen Arena against the Three Hills Thrashers.
