BECKETT, Debra (“Deby”) Lee, 67, of Hodgeville, SK passed away peacefully at the Swift Current Hospital on December 27, 2023.

Deby was born in Hodgeville, SK to Kasper and Lillian Sowa (nee Huber) on May 14, 1956. Deby lived at the Lorenz Farm until 1958, lived at the Scottsburgh Farm until 1969, then moved to their family home in Hodgeville.  Deby spent her younger years helping on the Sowa Family Farms and attended Hodgeville School. After graduation, Deby moved to Swift Current where she lived most of her life.  Deby worked at Civic Shopping Centre, West End Grocery and cleaned at Speedy Auto Glass for many years. She also cleaned residential houses for many customers in Swift Current.  For anyone who knows Deby, you know that she always had a spotless house! She was also actively involved with Archery and Cadets.

Deby also enjoyed camping, playing bingo, baking, making puzzles and restoring antique furniture.  Each summer, their family would spend a few weeks in Cypress for their summer holidays.  Deby took so much pride in her yard and her garden… and of course, the apple tree!  She always had lots of apples to share with friends and family.  Deby also loved to bake. Each year she would make her famous scuffle cake for her friend, Scott Lambs' birthday. Everyone will miss her famous scuffle cake!

Farming was always in her roots and she enjoyed bringing her family to both Sowa Farms in the fall to help with harvest. Harvest was Deby’s favorite – her and Ryan hauled grain in September 2023 for her nephew, Jordan Bochek and she loved every minute!

In 2017 Deby moved back to Hodgeville to help look after her mom, Lillian. Deby lived in Hodgeville at the Sowa Family Home until her time of death.

Deby is survived by her mom, Lillian Sowa; child, Ryan (Alicia) Beckett; grandchildren, Colten Beckett and Bonnie Goebel; sisters, Bev Turnbull and Arleen (Wayne) Bochek and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her daughter, Natasha Goebel; father, Kasper Sowa and brother-in-law, Ross Turnbull.

Donations can be made in Deby’s memory to the Hodgeville Community Hall.  In accordance with Deby’s wishes, there will be no formal service held.
