It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Susan Elizabeth Spenst, age 65, on December 30, 2023 in Swift Current Saskatchewan after fighting a brief, yet courageously fierce battle with cancer.

Susan was born on May 17, 1958 in Swift Current, Saskatchewan to parents William (Bill) and Fern Forester. Susan was an intelligent young woman who had a zest for learning and educating, which lead her to obtaining a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Saskatchewan, and teaching both full time and as a substitute at Waldeck School. While attending University in Saskatoon, love blossomed between Susan and country boy, Daniel (Danny) Spenst. Danny and Susan were married on July 8, 1978. They proceeded to build a life together by establishing their beloved farm near Waldeck, Saskatchewan and welcoming their two children into the world. As a mother, Susan facilitated every dream and desire her children had, and imprinted the importance of strength of character on them. She gently guided them into adulthood while still allowing them to become their own individuals. Susan adored all animals from an early age, and continued her fondness for them throughout her life as she cared for multitudes of cows, horses, cats and dogs on the farm. Her tender touch often nursed orphaned kittens back to health, and she embraced any pets her children happened to bring home on a whim. Home on the farm was where Susan’s heart always was, and she never ventured far from where she loved for long. Upon being blessed with the title of “Grandma”, Susan could often be found coloring or sitting playing games with one of her grandchildren, quietly enjoying every minute with them. Susan will be deeply missed by her grandchildren, and all others who loved her dearly.

Susan will be lovingly remembered by her entire family. She is survived by her mother, Fern Forester (Saunders); devoted husband of 45 Years, Danny Spenst; son, Duncan (Nicole) Spenst; daughter, Stacey (Geoff) Neumeier; grandchildren, Reese, Denton, Jordyn and Cooper; brother, Rob (Corey) Forester; sisters-in-law, Lynne (Joe) Unger, and Phyllis (Don) Cave; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Susan is predeceased by her beloved father, Bill Forester.

No public funeral service will be held, and a private family interment at the Hillcrest Columbarium will take place at a later date. Donations may be made in Susan’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Swift Current SPCA.
