A 27-year-old man from Indiana is happy to be alive after being trapped in his crashed vehicle for six days.

Indiana State Police say Matt Reum's truck went off Interstate 94 in northwest Indiana ahead of a bridge, missing the guardrail and rolling several times before landing on the other side of the creek, out of sight from the road above.

It wasn't until six days later that he was discovered by two fishermen who happened to spot his crumpled vehicle.

"I can't really. I don't know the address, but there's a car that's been here since Wednesday, and there's a person inside of it. He's still alive, too," said one of the fishermen said to 911 dispatchers. "They're on their way buddy. They're on the way."

Reum's friend Mike Oritz says the fishermen were in the right place at the right time.

"There was such a touch of luck there, but it was definitely God that brought him to the right place," said Matt's friend, Mike Oritz to ABC7.

For six days, Matt says he survived on rainwater while he waited for someone to find him.

Reum is now in hospital recovering and has taken to social media to update everyone on his situation.

"It's been a week and a day since I was rescued, and for that, I am beyond happy," said Reum. "Being able to be the beneficiary of this almost unwarranted love. It almost breaks my heart every time I think about it."

The crash left Matt without a leg. He also broke his ankle, as well as one of his hands.

"You've made something that would be so hard for a normal person to go through, and you've showered me with love," said Matt. "You have shown me so much kindness. There is no way I can ever repay you guys. Thank you for revitalizing my hope in humanity."

Matt says this will be a long road to recovery, and there will be dips and bends, but he says he feels like with all of the support he has been receiving, he'll be able to tackle anything.

"You guys turned an ordinary person who had a miracle happen and made him the most grateful person ever, and I can not thank you enough. While living through this, in and of itself, is a Christmas miracle, the generosity I have been shown has grown my heart three sizes this year."
