The local Meals on Wheels program is currently in need of some volunteers to help deliver daily meals.

Jolene Martin, Volunteer Coordinator with the Saskatchewan Health Authority details the increased need for the program in the city.

"Here in Swift Current, we have four routes and close to 55 clients. Probably between 1000-1200 meals a month go out."

Martin adds there is no set amount of commitment.

"There's no minimum or maximum commitment to deliver Meals on Wheels. I have groups and businesses that take one month a year, one week a month or just their availability monthly on a month-to-month basis. There is no minimum or maximum."

Volunteering is a great way to make a difference in our community and have a positive impact on the lives of clients according to Martin. In addition, she says it's a great team-building activity for businesses and their employees.

Not only do volunteers help the community but the opportunity also helps to build a resume, meet new people, and obtain stewardship and class credit hours.

Those interested in volunteering or obtaining more information can call Martin at 306-778-5114 or email jolene.martin@saskhealthauthority.ca or check out the Saskatchewan Health Authority website. under Careers & Volunteers.

Martin adds that they couldn't do the program without the efforts of the volunteers and are very appreciative.
