Top players from the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League and the Manitoba Junior Hockey league are on the ice in Winnipeg January 30-and 31 for the MJHL-SJHL Showcase. It’s a chance for scouts to clap their eyeballs on the cream of the two leagues’ crop for the 2023-24 Year.
Three teams of 20 players each from each league go head-to-head at the Seven Oaks Sportsplex in Winnipeg. Two teams from each league are designated 20U while the third team hosts 18U players. SJHL coaches, including Humboldt Broncos head coach Scott Barney, are helming the squads.
Representing Humboldt on the SJHL 18U Blue Team are goalie Aiden Fischer, defenseman Ben Constantino, and forwards Matt Van Blaricom, Connor Miller, and Jacob Strizzi. Scott Barney heads the coaching staff for the 18U Blues.
The 20U Gold Team boasts goalie Ben Motew.
Finally, the 20U White Team welcomes Broncos defensemen Connor Thue and Daylan Weigel; and forwards Spencer Bell, Travis Bryson, and Broncos’ captain Cage Newans.
While some of the players at the showcase are already spoken for in terms of school or league commitments, expect this to be another great year in player development and acquisitions for NCAA, USport, and Canadian Junior Hockey League teams.
The Broncos return home and get set for a weekend home and home with the Melville Millionaires starting on Friday.
