Spending time with family and having fun are arguably the most valuable parts of life, although sometimes it can be difficult to find the time or even find things to do. That's why in motion community facilitator for the city of Swift Current, Val Choo-Foo, has helped coordinate many events and activities this month for everyone to look forward to.
"We're very excited for our annual family fun week, it's going to be held during this February school break". says Choo-Foo.
Starting the week of fun on Monday, Feb. 19, Pioneer Co-op and Innovation Credit Union will hold family skating at the InnovationPlex from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. There will be great prizes available to win and hot dog combos for only three dollars.
On Tuesday families can look forward to public swimming at the Aquatic Center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Youth ages 14 and under can swim for free thanks to the sponsorship by the Kiwanis Club. Also this week the Swift Current Museum is hosting an exhibit featuring 'Iron Willed Women in STEM'. This special exhibit will be open from 9 - 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and on Saturday from 1 - 5 p.m.
On Feb. 21, the Swift Current Curling Club offers free curling clinics from 1-3 p.m. at the InnovationPlex. Equipment will be provided but the curling club asks that participants please bring a clean pair of footwear on the ice. Shortly after, Lego fans can head over to the Swift Current Branch Library for Lego club at 4 p.m.
Thursday the library will host preschool storytime adventures at 10 a.m. Later that evening there will be public swimming at the Aquatic Center from 7-8:30 p.m. Again youth 14 and under can swim for free.
Friday, Feb. 23 Tiny Tots will be held at the library at 10 a.m. Then on Saturday is the annual 'Coldest Night of the Year' which will be located at the Center. This fundraiser goes back to the community by supporting counselling and mentoring for local youth.
Ending off the festivities on Sunday, Feb. 25 with a fun day of cross-country skiing and snowshoeing out at the Chinook Golf Course, permitted the weather is favourabe. These winter events are being hosted from 1 - 5 p.m. by the Swift Current Nordic Ski Club where there will be a meet and greet with the Gee Haw dog sled, hot chocolate, a fire pit, and even some equipment will be available.
"We've got lots of great things happening all during the family fun week". Choo-Foo comments, "There's such a variety of activities for all ages". Hopefully, there will be something for everyone to enjoy this week and we can't wait to see you out there.
