The Swift Current Broncos win streak is now up to five games after a 4-1 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers in the first game of a home and home set.

Friday marked the first of four more games between the two clubs heading down the home stretch with lots on the line, including the Central Division lead.

It was the Broncos that got off to the good start as Luke Mistelbacher scored on the powerplay with less than two minutes to play in the first period, giving the Broncos a 1-0 lead after one period.

In the second, the Bronco penalty kill was buzzing, not allowing many chances for the Tigers. It resulted in a Conor Geekie breakaway where the Broncos star got slashed, leading to the penalty shot. Geekie decided to shoot on his penalty shot attempt and beat Ethan McCallum in the Tiger net to give the Broncos the 2-0 lead. The was followed by Mistelbacher's second of the night, this one at even strength to give the home club the 3-0 lead.

In the third period, Tomas Mrsic scored on a powerplay for the Tigers to get them on the board, but it’s as close as the Tigers would get. Josh Filmon made it 4-1 with just over five minutes to play to restore the three-goal lead.

Reid Dyck stopped 20 of 21 in the win, and the Broncos were 3-for-4 on the penalty kill. The powerplay was 1-for-2.

The Broncos and Tigers will battle once again in Medicine Hat on Saturday night.
