The Swift Current Broncos seven game win streak was snapped on Saturday night in Edmonton with a 4-1 loss to the Oil Kings.
It was a tough night for the Broncos who gave up the first goal in the game just about four minutes in. It was the only even strength goal scored in the contest as Gavin Hodnett got Edmonton on the board.
Conor Geekie responded early in the second for the Broncos on the powerplay, but that’s all the Broncos could muster offensively. The Broncos made their own ruts to the penalty box as they gave the Oil Kings eight chances on the powerplay, where Edmonton scored three times with Roan Woodward notching two, and Ty Nash scoring the other.
The Broncos had a few chances in the first to beat Hudson Perry and two fantastic chances in the third shorthanded from Caleb Wyrostok but the Oil Kings netminder was able to stop 26 of 27, while Broncos netminder Joey Rocha stopped 21 of 25 that he saw.
The Broncos were just 1-for-3 on the powerplay in the contest.
Swift Current won’t have to wait long for revenge on the Oil Kings as the two will meet on Wednesday in Swift Current.
