A 54-year-old Airdrie resident has been charged after a late-night Wednesday collision on the QEII.

Airdrie Rural RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision after 10 p.m. on Wednesday after a Chevrolet Cruze had rear-ended a Ford Escape, northbound on the QEII in the vicinity of the weigh scales.

Mounties said that the initial investigation indicates that the driver of the Chevrolet Cruze attempted to flee the scene on foot, but was subsequently located by police and arrested.

The individual's name cannot be released as the information has not been sworn to, though police said that there are impaired driving charges, with other charges that may been pending.

Emergency crews attended the scene, with EMS attending to both drivers, though no one was transported to the hospital.
