Southern Alberta RCMP detachments are warning motorists of what may be a very treacherous evening on the roads.
"[Mounties] are preparing for the potential of a spring storm, which may come with treacherous road conditions, in the upcoming 48 hours. Traditionally, the region between Airdrie and Innisfail on the QEII has been an area of great concern," police stated.
Police warn that if you do not have to travel, you are advised to stay home.
"If you must travel, RCMP wants to advise motorists to use extreme caution, slow down and maintain an increased distance between yourself and other drivers," police cautioned.
Locally, Airdrie is now under a snowfall warning.
The warning was issued by Envrinoment and Climate Change Canada on Tuesday afternoon.
"10-30 centimetres of snow is expected by Friday morning across southern Alberta. A multi-day snowfall event will start overnight tonight and last until Friday," the warning stated.
A widespread area of 10-20 centimetres of snow is expected, but an axis of 15-30 centimetres is expected from Nordegg/Rocky Mountain House south through the Calgary area over the three days.
"This snowfall warning will be expanded farther south as the system progresses. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow."
Motorists are warned to adjust driving with changing road conditions.
"Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions."
